The Opportunity
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (the department) is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Executive Service Band 1 (SES B1).
We are seeking a commanding leader to take on the role of Assistant Secretary Project Management Branch within the Overseas Property Office and Services Division (OPO).
You will be highly adept in the understanding and experience of design, construction, infrastructure, and project management, to lead and manage a range of functions related to construction and infrastructure delivery with OPO. You will confidently represent the department, communicate with influence across external stakeholders and government agencies to provide trusted advice and guidance.
Our Ideal Candidate
The Assistant Secretary shapes the strategic direction of the branch, role model principled behaviours in clarity, commitment, and care, and actively develops the professional capabilities within the Project Management Branch (PPB).
You will be a respected leader from the government or private sector with the ability to operate in a large and complex environment with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Senior leaders are expected to build and maintain the capability of the branch to ensure the effective delivery of the construction, major refurbishment projects and fit out of departmental overseas property.
In this role you will:
- Lead, manage and deliver the capital facilities and infrastructure required to enable the achievement of Australia’s foreign policy objectives and international engagement
- Ensure the effective management of all major project activities across a range of functions and projects, including people management, security, ICT, and financial management
- Be adept at managing dynamic, competing priorities with effective time management skills
- Superior communication, negotiation, and representative skills, building highly productive working relationships with agency and government partners
- Have experience successfully managing property, construction, and infrastructure projects with an understanding of whole of Government security overlay
Qualifications and Education
Mandatory:
Qualifications: A minimum of graduate level qualifications in Project Management, Construction, Architecture and/or Engineering.
Experience: Minimum of five years senior level experience in the construction industry.
Desirable:
Qualifications: Post graduate qualifications in Project Management, Construction, Architecture and/or Engineering.
Certifications: Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) - Certified Practicing Project Director. Formal training in leadership, management, negotiation, and mediation.
Experience: Planning and delivery of international major and medium construction projects.
