Job description

About the Role

We are looking for a creative, strategic and innovative communications and content professional to be our Senior Social Media and Publications Officer to support the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman’s mission “to make Australia the best place to start, grow and transform a business”.

Under limited direction and guidance, the Senior Social Media and Publications Officer will produce, publish and review social media content targeted at particular stakeholder groups through relevant social media platforms, to contribute to and advance the ASBFEO’s communications and engagement objectives. They will also contribute to the development of a range of external communications products, including video content, audio-visual and printed materials.

The role requires close collaboration with Data, Assistance and Policy and topic expertise across the agency ensuring high quality content and channel activation is supported by accurate, reliable and agreed ASBFEO position.

Duties

The main areas of focus for the role are

Contribute to the success of the media and communications team

  • Contribute to the formulation of media and communication strategies for ASBFEO that supports the achievement of its objectives and purpose
  • Lead the implementation of social media plans, programs and engagement in the connection of the teams overall strategy
  • Collaborate with and contribute to activities across the team to support their timely delivery of projects, initiatives and team deliverables
  • Mentor and support the contribution of the Social Media Officer, sharing expertise and experience in working with ASBFEO to ensure the social channels are monitored and engaged with in a timely way
  • Commission and manage agreed external AV service providers when agreed, to capture content where outsourcing is a more cost effective option for these services.

Social media channel management:

  • Manage social media presence, including the development of social media channel input to strategies and drafting messaging for Facebook, Twitter etc. in line with the Ombudsman’s broader objectives and topic area expertise advice
  • Identify emerging trends on social media platforms, assessing the impacts in conjunction with the broader ASBFEO team
  • Analyse and review complex social media data to inform future content creation and to recommend changes in social media channel engagement to improve the effectiveness of these channels in contributing to ASBFEO’s media and communications objectives.

Social media marketing:

  • Utilise Google Ads and AdWords, Facebook and LinkedIn Business suites to maintain and facilitate impactful engagement with a wide network of stakeholders
  • Evaluate and recommend social media expenditure in line with budget and efficiently utilise agreed funding envelopes for projects and activities
  • Produce reach and impact reporting for social media engagement to support and guide platform selection, engagement avenues and content
  • Deploy available social media tools and channels to grow stakeholder and small / family business audiences in a targeted and cost-effective manner.


Digital Content Creation

  • Propose, script and produce digital content to produce engaging digital content to advance the ASBFEO’s strategic objectives and communication and media goals
  • Seek out and identify external talent, case studies and “path finding” small business exemplars to incorporate compelling “field” evidence into created content
  • Recognise opportunities in the Ombudsman’s work program and agencies BAU activities to capture and utilise potential content, including Assistance success stories and Advocacy policy stakeholder and engagements activities
  • Identify and implement complimentary use of produced content across the range of ASBFEO platforms, communication channels and networks, published material to amplify messaging and advance ASBFEO’s communication and media objectives.

Skills required

The successful applicant will have significant practical experience in:

  • Utilising Google Ads and AdWords, Facebook and LinkedIn business suites to optimise productive engagement via these channels
  • Camera operation, video editing and graphic design to support quality content production
  • Managing social media channels and content creation to pursue communications objectives
  • Ability to devise, develop and produce high-quality communications products and content suitable for professional internal and external audiences and use a in design, visual user interface design, brand development and graphic design
  • In-depth knowledge of the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effect)
  • The ability to manage multiple design requests in a timely fashion, with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Previous experience with user centred design principles and practices, web/mobile standards, typography and colour, and web/mobile usability standards
  • Build, maintain and facilitate productive engagement with a wide network of stakeholders, both internal and external.

Qualifications and Experience

Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design or a related discipline, and/or demonstrated experience in a marketing or communications role is desirable.

Essential

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working with website content management systems
  • Strong organisation, time-management and coordination skills
  • The ability to think strategically to proactively identify emerging trends and opportunities to respond effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effect)
  • Familiarity with, or previous experience using the Drupal-based content management system, Google Analytics and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • A ‘can do’ and collegiate attitude with a willingness to learn, draw from others and collaborate to perform a variety of tasks;
  • Demonstrated experience using digital and social communication tools
  • Working knowledge of and practical experience within a small and family business; and
  • A passion and empathy with small and family business.
    Desirable:
  • Being at ease with scientific information and translating that information into plain English.

Eligibility

Employees of the Treasury are required to be Australian citizens and must hold a current security clearance or successfully complete a clearance prior to commencement.
