Job Title:Active Lifestyles Officer

Location: Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region

Employment Conditions: Part Time of Full Time

Special Conditions: 2x Positions Available (1x Female and 1x Male)

Salary: $73,149 - $80,367

Generous salary packaging: $15,899.94p/a

Professional development incentive: Allowance of $1,500p/a

Reports to: Active Lifestyles Team Leader

Amazing further benefits including: 6 weeks annual leave as well as personal/carer’s leave up to 10 days per year, general dentistry and Remote retention allowance of $750

About us

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (Anyinginyi Health) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region, dedicated to ‘Closing the Gap’ in Aboriginal health within remote Australia.
Anyinginyi Health is made up of four different sections (Health Services, Corporate Services, Public Health Unit and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families) which allow them to have a holistic approach to health ensuring that clients’ physical and emotional health and well-being is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi Health's mission is to be a provider of high quality holistic primary health care services featuring prevention and treatment in the Barkly region in a culturally responsive way.

About the Role

The Active Lifestyles program aims to help close the gap by lowering preventable chronic diseases and obesity among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You as Active Lifestyles Officer will provide support to the Team Leader. Along with one other Officer, you will help implement culturally appropriate programs that address physical, social, and emotional well-being needs. You will support families,communities, and individuals in becoming strong, healthy, and resilient, improve pathways to education and employment, and decrease contact with the justice system and substance abuse.

More specifically, some of your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Support activities such as cultural dance, sport, walks, runs, general exercise groups
  • Support activities that engage people to be active by engaging with other stakeholders
  • Incorporate Health Promotion messages into wellbeing activities
  • Helping improve health literacy
  • Incorporate activities that incorporate connection to Country, and the passing of culture, history, language, and knowledge of plants and wildlife
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and clear direction, while reporting to and consulting with the Executive Manager
  • Develop relationships with other Sections, and other teams with PSF Section to share knowledge, information, and connections, and work together to deliver activities
  • Provide an inclusive learning and supportive environment, and ensure staff wellbeing
  • Ensure official record keeping is maintained and relevant data collected

About You

You should have the motivation and enthusiasm for engaging families and individuals in program activities. To be successful, you will have experience working in Aboriginal communities or health services in a culturally responsive manner. You will need interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to develop and maintain relationships. Ideally, you have experience in planning projects, and running wellbeing type programs.

Desirable Skills and Experience (Not Essential):

  • Experience and knowledge of the Tennant Creek and Barkly Region.
  • Ability to speak a local language

  • Confirmation of employment is dependent on the outcome of the successful application for an Ochre Card/ Working with Children’s Card and a Satisfactory Criminal History Check.
