Are you an experienced administration officer, with outstanding organisation and communication skills?

Do you want to work for the NSW Parliament, supporting the Upper House and its committees, which will soon be celebrating 200 years as the cornerstone of democracy in New South Wales?

If you answered yes to both questions, we encourage you to apply to work with us.

About us

We are a dynamic, hardworking team supporting the work of the Legislative Council in the NSW Parliament. This includes supporting the work of the Chamber and the numerous inquiries conducted by parliamentary committees, as well as coordinating events and visiting delegations.

The Legislative Council is the Upper House of the NSW Parliament. It is a House of Review, and acts as a check and balance on the Executive Government. The Department of the Legislative Council supports the activities of the Upper House, including its sittings, committee inquiries, protocol and corporate responsibilities. It also undertakes communication and engagement activities to inform and educate the community, as well as key internal and external stakeholders.

The Department has three parts – the Procedure Office, the Corporate and Bicentenary (Black Rod) Office, and the Committee Office. The advertised roles are based in the Committee and Corporate and Bicentenary (Black Rod) Offices.

Department staff strive to provide exceptional services to our key stakeholders including the President of the Legislative Council, members and their staff, government agencies, participants in committee inquiries, members of the public and visitors to Parliament.

The Legislative Council is committed to improvement and excellence. We offer thorough training, ongoing career development and support, and excellent working conditions, including working from home at times, subject to business needs. Applicants need to bring a passion for the democratic process and an interest in understanding how it works in New South Wales along with a desire to work in an environment where impartiality and integrity are key.

About the positions

Administration officers in the Committees team assist with the processing of submissions, organisation of hearings and committee meetings, management of records, and production of committee reports. They also assist in responding to enquiries from a wide range of stakeholders.

Administration officers in the Black Rod team are responsible for providing administrative support including contributing to the organisation of events related to the Bicentenary of the Legislative Council in 2024, protocol and ceremonial events, managing records, completing routine financial transactions and responding to enquiries from a range of stakeholders including the Office of the President.
