Organisation Overview

Carbal Medical Services (Carbal) is a Not-for-Profit, charitable organisation that provides health services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander community in and around Toowoomba and Warwick.

The core function of Carbal Medical Services is to provide medical services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people delivered through two medical practices and many community programs.  Covering the Darling Downs and Southern Downs regions including Goondiwindi, this position will be based in our Toowoomba Outreach Health Support Services Centre and reports directly to the General Manager – Outreach Operations.

 Position Overview

This role will see you working as part of a team to deliver exceptional standards of care to Aboriginal Torres Strait Islanders, and you will be motivated and have a genuine desire to Close the Gap in Indigenous health outcomes. Your brief is broad and extends across all aspects of the organisation. Understanding of the national privacy principles and the importance of confidentiality, will make you stand apart from other applicants.

You are confident, approachable, professional and well presented, have a highly professional phone manner and you love making a difference within health outcomes in our community.

Key duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Provide friendly and welcoming first point of contact to clients.
  • Provide high quality administration support to our outreach team.
  • Reception duties, taking and making telephone calls.
  • Data entry across all outreach programs as requested.
  • Working closely with General Manager and all Outreach staff.
  • Responding to emails and managing calendar appointments.
  • Ordering of stationary and any other office requirements.
  • Other administrative duties as requested.
  • Show appreciation for Indigenous culture and adapt your approach accordingly, promoting a culturally safe and inclusive environment
  • Build and maintain respectful and meaningful community relationships.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Previous administration and reception experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with patients with a caring attitude.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Possess the ability to work under supervision and independently, and a thirst to learn.
  • Sound computer skills and experience with medical software packages.
  • Well presented, friendly, organised and reliable, with accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
  • You must have an Open C Class driver license valid in Queensland.
  • Satisfactory Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Record, and ability to obtain a Blue Card. This will be conducted on initial appointment and on an annual basis in line with Carbal's compliance schedule.

Desirable

  • Experience with MMEX software.
  • Certificate III or higher in Administration / Reception.
  • Previous experience working in the Not-For-Profit sector.
  • Experience in working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a clear understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture.
  • Immediate start preferable
