After-Hours Advanced Practice Nurse for Prince of Wales Hospital - Full-time and part-time roles available now

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is preparing to open a brand new hospital building at Prince of Wales Hospital at Randwick. As part of this, we are expanding our after-hours nursing team.

What you'll be doing
The After-Hours Advanced Practice Nurse provides after-hours expert person-centred care across Prince of Wales Hospital. The consultancy is provided to patients and carers, nursing staff and junior medical officers.

The role will undertake clinical patient assessments and contribute towards clinical investigation and the overall management of complex, acute medical and surgical conditions. A strong focus of the role relates to working with staff in the clinical areas when patients are directly admitted to the clinical areas after hours from the Emergency Department or transferred from intensive care/acute care units.

Multiple positions are available, including full-time and part-time. The position works across 7 days per week on an afternoon/evening shift.

Positions are available to commence in January 2023. An eligibility list will be created for future vacancies.

Prince of Wales Hospital is in Randwick, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The hospital is close to both light rail and bus stops.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Selection criteria * Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

  • Minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field and post graduate qualifications relevant to the field of practice.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in clinical assessment, clinical management and advanced life support.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and an understanding of the practice development framework.
  • Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research.
  • Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in client-centred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
