About Us
Murdoch University farms hosts research and teaching facilities for veterinary science, animal science, environmental science, forensics and water-related courses, while supporting Murdoch University Position Description – Professional Positions community and regional engagement. The Farms management works closely with the School of Veterinary Medicine and the School of Agriculture to provide students with a ‘hands-on’ approach to learning and research. Murdoch University has 3 farms which are breeding operations for horses, beef cattle and sheep: the 51 ha ‘Vet Farm’ at the Perth campus, the 80 ha ‘Mardella Farm’ and 203 ha ‘Whitby Falls Farm.
The Role
Design a dynamic system for assessing the appropriate stocking rate for supporting teaching and research and model its financial implications
Identify process improvement opportunities and gaps in compliance to achieve and maintain accreditation standards
Ensure the Farm Operational Plan is supported with a suitable governance structure
Integrate teaching & research activities into farm management calendar
Optimise opportunity for commercial growth and financial gain
Plan budget allocation, capital, infrastructure, repair & maintenance needs
Contribute to the Farms Management Committee and Farms Advisory Council
Plan & implement a system for compliance with standards for biosecurity, animal welfare & husbandry, on farm safety, chemical & drug safety
Ensure a high standard of record keeping
What you’ll bring to this role
A relevant degree such as in Agriculture, Agricultural economics or Agri-Business
Significant agricultural industry experience in process improvement and compliance
Highly effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation
The ability to apply an in-depth knowledge of the agriculture/farming industry, and the relevant legislation in a practical environment
Excellent organisational, time and workload management skills, including the ability to prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines
Experience with computer systems used in farming practices and the ability to remotely monitor farms operations
Proven ability to work independently as well as fitting seamlessly into a team environment. Excellent organisational, time and workload management skills, including the ability to prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines
