Ai Group - Research Engineer

The AI Engineering group is looking for senior research engineers who specialize in the fields of natural language processing (NLP), machine learning (ML), finance, speech, or information retrieval (IR) to help us build the next generation of AI-driven Bloomberg products. The projects we are looking to hire for include dialog understanding, news and research, information extraction, fixed income pricing and workflow optimization, search, query parsing, and recommender systems. In the AI Engineering group, we work with CTO, Core Terminal, and Enterprise product and our ENG counterparts to build cutting-edge machine-learning-driven solutions for our external clients and platforms for our internal clients. Today, we are nearly 200 strong and are organized into 6 divisions and 25+ teams. Our internal platform offerings include the Data Science Platform (DSP), the NLP Platform, and the Bloomberg knowledge graph (bbKG). Our client-facing products include:

• classification, sentiment, ranking, clustering, and summarization systems for news and research,
• low-latency high-precision earnings and eco extractions for the newsroom and core terminal,
• dialog understanding to detect security, side, size, price, and intent for over the counter trading,
• speech recognition to enable information discovery,
• query understanding, autocomplete, and question answering for applications across the terminal,
• end-to-end federated search, best and special answers, and ranking for the terminal,
• classification, ranking, and pricing solutions for fixed income pricing and portfolio management.

In addition, we help run the NLP and ML Guilds, participate in the Python and Distributed Systems Guilds, contribute back to open-source, publish academic papers, and teach ML EDU courses. We are passionate about engineering and contribute to open source; contributions we have made and work with include Solr, Koan, KFServing, Cloud Native Buildpacks and PyTorch Lightning that directly impact our production services, and tools like pydocstyle, cookiecutter/cruft that improve developer experience. Some of the technologies we work on include:

• Parallel and distributed systems like Kubernetes, OpenMPI, Apache Kafka,
• Applied Machine Learning frameworks like PyTorch, scikit-learn, Tensorflow, and
• Data-driven frameworks like Apache Spark, Apache Solr, Pandas, Apache Hadoop
