The Role
Do you want to help lead Defence in its journey to become a more data-informed organization?

We are seeking the right people to play a key role in driving cultural change in Defence and delivering Defence Logistics Systems business transformation.

2 X APS 5 Engineering and Maintenance Management System Officer (Land or Aviation domain) roles, under limited direction, performs and achieves complex technical work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable for ensuring they have knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

The APS 5 Engineering and Maintenance Management Systems Officer will work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work. They will exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. They will provide detailed technical inputs, professional and policy advice in relation to complex work and contribute to strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.

The APS 5 Engineering and Maintenance Management Systems Officer will have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable for contributing towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

About our Team
The Engineering and Maintenance is part of the Directorate of Logistics Systems Sustainment (DLSS) is located in Melbourne and Canberra Offices, and is one of three directorates within Logistics Systems Branch (LSB).

The Directorate consists of a blended APS, ADF and contractor workforce, many with deep subject matter expertise and specialist skills. It is agile to meet the changing business demands of the organization, including embracing ERP.

Our team provide specialist business, data, process and procedure, and mentoring support to users and stakeholders in relation to ICT systems supporting engineering and maintenance practices for both land and aviation maintenance.

We work closely with our stakeholders in the development and maintenance of capability roadmaps, coordinating business requirements, assessing risk and safety implications, prioritizing proposed changes, and leading to associated business change and readiness activities. We engage with our stakeholders and partners to develop business requirements and blueprint activities for the future Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and be capable of working with a wide variety of customers and stakeholders. Understand what is required to prepare and transition our organization through business transformation initiatives ready for the Defence Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Program.
  • They will be able to manage the priorities and needs of the customers to meet and exceed their expectations by being able to work in a fluid environment by remaining flexible, agile and adaptable.
  • Experience in Logistics Information Systems, ideally within the maintenance area.
  • Experience of providing support to the users of information systems, such as on-site coaching/training; interpretation of processes; analysis of issues.
  • Knowledge or experience in user requirements, business requirements elicitation, ideally within a Defence or Government environment.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written skills and will be an effective team member.
  • Exercise sound decision making and judgement, engage in complex problem solving and issue management and be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships.
  • You will be keen to take on a challenging but rewarding position that will provide the opportunity to put your skills to use in delivering solutions and outcomes for Defence as we move towards the implementation of ERP.
