Job description

  • $88,175 - $100,724 (plus Super)
  • Weston Creek - ACT
The Role
As the Defence Languages Capability Cell’s (DLCC’s) Training Coordinator you will be responsible primarily for the management of the Foreign Language Upskilling And Enhancement Training (FLUENT) Program. This will require you to liaise with external training providers and Defence linguists to determine training schedules, panel linguists to courses, conduct course evaluations and maintain all correspondence using Defence’s record management system.
You will be involved in researching and recommending a range of flexible training options to assist Defence linguists in upskilling and enhancing their language training skills including interpreting and translating. You will also be required to take on tasks to support the every-day activities and duties of the small cell, which include but are not limited to answering inquiries through the group inbox, contributing to higher command communications, assist with tasking linguists and acting on behalf of the Civilian Language Manager.
About our Team
The Defence Languages Capability Cell (DLCC) was set up in 2019 to provide joint coordination and oversight of Defence’s diverse language capability. We are a small but high-performing team, led by the Director, a full-time ADF officer (LTCOL (E)).
Two APS6 positions, including the advertised role, and three Reserve (part-time) staff members currently report directly to the Director. DLCC staff work both independently as a team as well as within the unique and collegial Defence language community, to achieve the Cell’s diverse and interesting work outcomes.
The DLCC is one of several joint training/capability elements under the command of the ADF Training Centre within Australian Defence College at Weston Creek. Within this environment, you will be trusted to undertake your duties autonomously, expected to take pride in your work outcomes and supported to develop and achieve your personal and professional potential.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is friendly, engaging, team-oriented and highly competent.
  • You are passionate about assisting others with developing and achieving organisational standards and their personal potential.
  • You are self-motivating, adaptable and can respond proactively and calmly to changing program requirements.
  • You have excellent communication, interpersonal relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • You will have the capacity to rapidly build broad knowledge of Defence language training and assessment systems, and specific knowledge of the Defence Languages Capability Cell’s charter, to allow yourself to act confidently as the Cell’s training and assessment subject matter expert.
  • Familiarity with languages other than English training or capability would be an advantage, but is not essential.
  • You will relish autonomy and responsibility and will also enjoy working on shared outcomes within a small, dedicated team
