We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible, adaptable andreliable individuals that can exhibit a “can do”attitude with the ability to work efficiently and effectively in afast-paced work environment.

Tribunal Assistants provide administrative and hearing supportto Tribunal members and client service to users of the Tribunal'sservices, such as applicants and their representatives.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience working fora Commonwealth Government agency and have access to learning anddevelopment opportunities. The flexible casual hours are ideal foruniversity students.

The ideal applicant will be able to work a minimum of 15 hoursper week on a rotating roster where the span of work hours isbetween 8:00am - 5:30pm. Onsite attendance is required for thisrole due to the nature of the work.

The hourly pay rate for these positions are between $35.85 -$40.33 including 25% loading. Our newly approved EnterpriseAgreement will deliver a 4% pay increase from 14 March 2024.

The AAT is part of the justice sector and providesadministrative justice for individuals and organisations byreviewing government and other decisions and, more broadly,contributes to improving the quality of governmentdecision-making.

Position Eligibility Requirements

The AAT requires Australian citizenship as a condition ofengagement. All employees are required to undertake an AustralianFederal Police Check and to undertake a health assessment.

About the AAT:

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) plays a crucial rolein the Australian legal landscape, providing a process forindividuals and organisations to seek an independent review ofdecisions made under a wide range of Commonwealth laws.

The AAT can take a fresh look at decisions made by AustralianGovernment ministers, departments and agencies – and, inlimited circumstances, decisions made by state government andnon-government bodies. It also can review decisions made underNorfolk Island laws.

The AAT comprises members, the independent statutory appointeeswho hear review applications, and staff, who provide services tosupport applicants and the review process, as well as theTribunal’s daily operations.

The AAT will be transitioning to a new merits review body, to becalled the Administrative Review Tribunal, in 2024.
