APS5/6 Financial Accountant - Multiple opportunities

Our client is a large federal government department that plays a critical role in addressing a range of high-profile issues across Australian policy areas.
 
The Opportunity

Initially, the role is offered as a 12 month non-ongoing contract, with the possibility of becoming permanent. It serves as an excellent entry point for individuals seeking growth opportunities within the federal government.

High performers will be eligible for consideration for Acting APS6 or EL1 positions. Additionally, this role presents an outstanding opportunity for high achievers from outside the Public Service to transition their careers and gain valuable insights into government operations.
 
The Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Prepare journals, including monthly upload journals from different finance systems
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and annual financial statements
• Undertake month-end and year-end ledger close functions for the departmental or administered ledger
• Prepare monthly financial statements for reporting to the Department of Finance and Departmental Executive
• Liaise with the Australian National Audit Office on audit requests and coordination of financial statements audit activity

You are an experienced accountant or financial auditor and highly motivated, possessing a pragmatic and reliable common-sense approach to new problems and situations.

You will be recognised for your strong technical skills, as well as your high level of attention to detail and analytical abilities.
 
You will have working experience in accounting or auditing, ideally in the Big-4 or other consulting firm, a large commercial organisation, non-for-profit organisation, accounting firm or within the government sector.
 
Applicants MUST be Australian Citizens to be considered for this opportunity as you will be required to obtain an AGVSA baseline security clearance.
 
Salary / Rate

• $80k - $102k + 15.4% super
• 12 non-ongoing contract with a view to permanent
