Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 500,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

Positions are available in the Analytics, Data & Actuarial Division at the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) for APS6 Actuarial Analysts. The role supports the Scheme Actuary to fulfil statutory requirements of the NDIS Act, together with other reporting, analysis and data management activities.

The Division also provides operational data, insights and analytics to all operational teams, driving service delivery performance. They produce the annual financial sustainability report and quarterly actuarial reports, and provide information and advice to the CEO and the Board.

The Financial Sustainability Branch provides continuous monitoring of financial sustainability pressures within the Scheme, including providing support to other branches in assessing financial impacts of operational activities. The key deliverable of the branch is the production of the Annual Financial Sustainability Report (AFSR), which supports the Scheme Actuary’s legislative responsibilities in respect to the assessment of the ongoing financial sustainability of the Scheme overall.

The Actuarial Monitoring Branch supports the Scheme Actuary Division through ongoing monitoring and reporting on Scheme performance against key metrics. The reports are delivered to key stakeholders such as the Council of Australian Government (COAG). The team also is responsible for the overall monitoring of the Scheme and producing the quarterly actuarial reports, and for provision of special purpose reports at the request of the Board, its subcommittees, and the public data release schedule.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting in designing actuarial, statistical and mathematical models to undertake analytical work that respond to business issues, including actuarial monitoring and analyses, data tabulations, scheme projects and cost benefit analyses.
  • Extracting, cleansing and preparing of data from multiple sources, in particular the data warehouse, and advising on appropriate data checks for reasonableness.
  • Updating and development of regular performance monitoring.
  • Supporting the division to fulfil statutory requirements of the NDIS Act 2013 including the provision of data and analysis for reporting to the Board, Minister and for the purpose of public data sharing.
  • Utilising statistical and mathematical modelling techniques to undertake analytical work on a range of tasks, including actuarial monitoring and analyses, data tabulations, scheme projects and cost benefit analyses.
Enough about us, let’s talk about you

To be successful in the role, you will have experience in undertaking analytical work on a range of tasks, such as actuarial analyses, data tabulations, projections, cost benefit analyses, ad hoc modelling requests, and report production. You should have strong working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and using statistical software (e.g., SAS). Ideally, you should also have supervision and/or coaching experience as you may be required to coach other junior team members.

This position is within the professional job stream and the officer must possess relevant academic qualifications. This may include tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies, Mathematics, Statistics or other relevant equivalent qualifications.

While this role is ideally performed from VIC-Richmond, NSW-Surry Hills, SA-Adelaide, ACT-Braddon, and VIC-Geelong, other working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 18 months may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
