About the Branch
The Communications Branch comprises media and speechwriting, strategic external communications, digital engagement, branding, visual design and internal communications. The branch is full service supporting the department and ministerial offices.
We are looking to fill current and expected vacancies in our Internal communications and strategic external communications teams.
About the Teams
Internal Communications Team
The Internal Communications Team Leader sits in the Branding, Visual Design and Internal Communications team. This team has responsibility for a wide range of services, including:
- providing strategic advice on internal communications, including content for the intranet, digital boards and all staff emails, and developing communication strategies
- managing the department's brands and the development of any new brands
- delivering design and audio visual projects for the department and ministers
- supporting internal events.
Strategic External Communications Team
Our Strategic Communications teams work closely with policy and program areas in the department to plan and execute communications strategies that support the department's business objectives. A Strategic External Communications Assistant Manager leads and coordinates advice and service delivery to specific teams and branches. The teams have responsibility for:
- providing strategic advice on external communications, including content for the department's websites and social media channels
- developing and implementing long-term communications strategies for large projects
- advertising campaign management
- liaising with design, audio visual, digital and media colleagues to deliver comprehensive and engaging communications.
Our ideal candidate
We are looking for people who have exceptional communication skills, as well as experience managing a small team.
You will have excellent attention to detail, strong project management skills and the ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
Candidates with the following experience and skills will be highly regarded:
- Tertiary qualifications in the communications field
- Extensive experience in strategic communications, external or internal
- Highly-developed writing and editing skills
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office
- For the Internal Communications role, experience and skills in content writing and Sharepoint proficiency will be an advantage.
What you will do
As the Internal Communications Assistant Manager you will:
- Develop and execute comprehensive, fit-for-purpose internal communications strategies.
- Develop and manage content for digital channels including the department intranet and digital boards.
- Engage with internal client areas to provide advice and encourage collaboration in the development of key messaging and internal communications content.
- Undertake editorial services and content creation for the department's internal channels.
- Mentor and build capability among team members.
- Ensure integrity through accuracy and consistency of messaging, responsiveness, timeliness and quality output.
- Undertake effective evaluation of communication activities against objectives for key initiatives and projects.
- Management procurement processes and external suppliers where external services are appropriate.
- Provide management of and direction to a small internal communications team and delegate tasks appropriately.
- Proactively seek out opportunities to promote the department's work to colleagues.
- Develop and execute comprehensive, fit-for-purpose communications strategies, including for program announcements and high-profile policy development activities.
- Engage with program and client areas to encourage collaboration in the development of key messaging and external communications content.
- Develop web content, social media content, internal communications, publications and marketing material.
- Undertake editorial services and content creation for the department and our Ministers.
- Mentor and build capability among team members.
- Ensure integrity through accuracy and consistency of messaging, responsiveness, timeliness and quality output.
- Undertake effective evaluation of communication activities against objectives for key initiatives and projects.
- Management procurement processes and external suppliers where external services are appropriate.
- Manage and/or assist with advertising campaigns.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
