Job description

Job no: 510992
Employment type: Ongoing
Location: Canberra
Categories: Programme Management, Executive Level 1, Customer service, Call centre, Project Management

About the team

The Business Outreach and Engagement Branch assists businesses to engage with government, in a simpler and more streamlined way. We directly support businesses to grow, access services and grants, and make connections and networks. This gives us unique insight into local conditions, and the impact of government policies and programs on the ground.

The AusIndustry Insights section develops insights about the challenges and opportunities that Australian businesses are experiencing day to day, in near real-time. To do this, we pair qualitative business stories with quantitative data from business interactions with government programs, and our website and contact centre. Our business insights are shared across the APS to assist with policy challenges, inform decision-making, and improve impact and outcomes for businesses.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate is a curious and creative problem-solver, who likes exploring new ways of doing things. You have excellent judgement, engage constructively with risk, and think strategically.

You can communicate clearly, choosing the right format and content depending on the audience. You are able to distil large amounts of complex information into clear and persuasive key messages. You see links between information and identify opportunities where our work can add value. You enjoy working collaboratively and building partnerships and networks.

You are flexible and adaptable, delivering results under deadline pressure, ambiguity and changing circumstances. You have a track record of delivering outcomes and leading high performing teams.

What you will do

As Assistant Manager, AusIndustry Insights, you will work with a high level of autonomy under broad direction. You will lead a small team to use qualitative and quantitative information to develop business insights. In particular, you will:

  • Manage planned and ad hoc business insights reporting processes, including urgent requests for input.
  • Understand and report on emerging issues and trends, considering strategic priorities across the department, the APS and government.
  • Proactively identify stakeholder needs and opportunities to add value, then develop appropriate solutions.
  • Form strong relationships across government, including advocating for, representing and negotiating on behalf of the branch, division and department.
  • Develop practical resources, such as user guides, to support data standardisation and capability.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor staff, providing timely and constructive feedback and managing performance.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.
