About the teams

The Industry Participation Policy team is responsible for the implementation of the Commonwealth Australian Industry Participation procurement connected policy and development and implementation of the Buy Australian Plan while working with partner agencies and the Department of Finance. The section delivers on Australian Government commitments to support Australian businesses to engage with opportunities involving government investments and procurements. We are a geographically diverse team that champions flexible working arrangements and the concept of bringing your whole self to work.

The Major Projects Policy team provides advice to the Departmental executive and the Minister on services provided by the Major Projects Facilitation Agency (MPFA) to support major project proponents in the development of their projects. The MPFA actively and directly supports a wide range of major project proponents through their Australian Government approvals pathways. The Major Project Policy section also provides advice on policy and regulatory settings, including gaps / barriers that may inhibit the progress of projects.

The Business Capability team is responsible for sovereign capability policy and support for Australian businesses to participate in procurement. This includes working with Defence to maximise Australian industry participation in Defence projects; liaising with the Australian Space Agency on space industry policy; and managing the departments relationship with, and funding to, the Industry Capability Network Limited.

demonstrated policy experience in either industry participation/capability, defence, space, major projects or other related topics.

What you will do

The Policy sections are looking for EL 1 Assistant Managers to deliver high quality policy advice.

EL1 Assistant Manager duties include (some are section specific), but are not limited to:

Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring for junior staff.
Be pivotal in supporting the Manager and Executive to deliver outcomes.
Contributing to shape strategic thinking and direction for the team.
Interpret, draft and review policy and procedural directions within specialist area.
Facilitate the development of on-line tools to support major projects navigate regulatory approvals and AIP processes and data management.
Develop and manage a range of stakeholder relationships. Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation.
Generate new ideas approaches and strategies. Implement change and business improvement strategies in the workplace.
Responsible for the achievement of own and team outcomes, monitor team progress and follow through to deliver quality and timely outcomes.
Represent and explain the views of the agency at cross-agency meetings and other forums.
Develop and implement a data strategy, supporting collection of evidence to contribute to policy advice and measure the effectiveness of programs.
Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions in the Business Capability team require a NV1 security clearance, and other teams require Baseline clearance. Successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level. If you hold a current security clearance, please note your clearance in your application.
