Job description

Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) are seeking a talented and dynamic Project Development Specialist to join our Green Investment Group (GIG) to cover Asia Pacific within our high performing team in Sydney. 

GIG invests in and manages a portfolio of interests in green energy projects at various stages of development, as well as investing in the creation and acquisition of operating platforms which undertake the development, commercialisation, construction, and operation of green energy assets. 

As a senior member of the team, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast paced, challenging environment assisting GIG executives in identifying new projects, investments, and development relationships.

Your responsibilities will include assisting with due diligence of projects and investment opportunities including the selection, appointment and management of due diligence advisers, technical consultants, and specialised contractors/staff.  You will oversee underlying development teams and relationships to deliver development plans across the GIG portfolio of projects in Asia Pacific including resourcing and budget planning. 

You will provide strategic advice on platform formation, including input into the operating model, business strategy and recruitment of relevant expertise.  You will have oversight across the various development process including identifying key risks to project delivery and managing budget, resourcing, and funding to minimise potential losses due to delays, or failure to secure projects.  You will also be required to advise on WHSE and stakeholder management strategies throughout the development cycle, including securing and managing relevant internal and external support where necessary. 

Working together with project developers and GIG Executives you will be required to scope and select project advisers and consultants including owners engineer, legal advisers, and other market, technical or environmental consultants.  You will be responsible for commercial review and negotiation of term sheets and contracts, including agreements for lease, EPC and O&M, grid and connection agreements and risk allocation framework between these parties. 

You will assist GIG Executives in preparing project specific elements of internal approval papers and information memoranda for debt and equity investors with a specific focus on technical aspects and commercial agreements.  Working together with project developers and internal stakeholders you will be responsible for developing and implementing construction and asset management strategies for the delivery and operation of the projects, including of specialised asset management services and recruitment of relevant staff.

With a tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as engineering, you will have a minimum of 8+ years proven experience in power or renewable energy project development including the identification of sites, negotiation of land leases or options, securing grid connections and planning and environmental approvals. 

You will have project management experience, including managing development teams and external consultants to deliver ‘shovel ready, renewable power or energy projects.  Prior experience of equipment procurement, selecting suitable equipment suppliers and running competitive tenders for wind turbines, solar panels or other power generation or renewable energy technologies would be advantageous.

Prior experience of commercial negotiation of sub-contracts including EPC & O&M contracts and scoping and selecting owner’s engineers, legal and other technical advisors would be a plus.  Prior construction project management experience particularly in the Asia region would also be advantageous.  You will be a team player and a strong communicator with an analytical mindset who is able to deliver against challenging targets with limited supervision.
