The Bureau of Meteorology Research Program, in collaboration with the operational areas of the Bureau, carries out the main research activities in the Bureau in the areas of Earth System Modelling (ESM) including weather, ocean, seasonal prediction and in Weather and Climate Information. The research work is carried out on high performance computing (HPC) platforms at the Bureau and at a collaboration site, the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI), based at Australian National University.

The Atmospheric Modelling Research Scientist will be a member of the Atmospheric Modelling Team within the Research Program. This team conducts research to develop and improve the Bureau's regional high-resolution atmospheric modelling systems to support improved prediction on weather and climate timescales.

The position involves conducting research, both independently and under guidance, to develop and evaluate the Bureau's regional high-resolution atmospheric modelling systems. The research will adapt and enhance existing modelling software, with a focus on the representation of atmospheric processes, in particular convection.
