The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for the position of an experienced Qualified Simulator Instructor (QSI) to join the Aircrew Training Capability in Boeing Defence Australia (BDA). This position will support the E-7A Wedgetail In Service Support Program (WISS) in Williamtown, NSW. The QSI is primarily responsible for the conduct of E-7A Wedgetail pilot flying instruction in both the classroom and a Level D simulator.
Responsibilities
- Conduct training of RAAF customer pilots during the simulator phase of training throughout all levels of the E-7A Wedgetail Pilot Categorisation and Currency Scheme.
- Conduct thorough briefings prior to each training session to provide the training expectations, as well as debriefings and critiques at the end of each training session, to ensure that the customer is aware of their performance. Provide a brief outline of the training events for future sessions.
- Conduct mass briefings to students as per the relevant course syllabus.
- Support and facilitate the students undertaking E-7A Wedgetail CBT, providing specialist pilot knowledge.
- Facilitate theoretical examinations as per the relevant course syllabus.
- Evaluate and document the pilots' performance and progress in the training sessions in the relevant records and reports to allow third party assessment.
- Report any customer training problems or conflicts to the Senior Instructor - Flight Crew Training.
- Enable the efficient delivery of training by ensuring that all administrative duties relating to training are arranged, including briefing room and simulator preparation. This will include coordination with other elements of the WT ISS Training Services Delivery Team.
- The ability to perform all of the duties required of a Flight Training Ground School Instructor.
- Communicate with the Simulator maintenance function to report any simulator problems or malfunctions.
- Support flight simulator Recurrent Fidelity Checks as an experienced E-7A Wedgetail Instructor Pilot.
- Develop and input comprehensive training scenarios for the E-7A Wedgetail full-flight simulator based on RAAF customer requirements.
- Maintain E-7A Wedgetail Pilot courseware in accordance with Boeing standards.
- Conduct internal and external training evaluations of E-7A Wedgetail training in accordance with Boeing standards.
- Support and be responsive to the Senior Instructor - Flight Crew Training for the purposes of day-to-day management tasks including reporting, briefings and meetings.
- Undergo Annual instructor Evaluation by RAAF Central Flying School.
- Perform other duties as tasked by the Senior Instructor - Flight Crew Training.
Essential Criteria:
- RAAF Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI).
- E-7A Wedgetail operational experience as a CATEGORY C Captain (or Higher) including Air To Air Refueling (AAR).
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with co-workers, maintaining productive working relationships to meet team, business unit and organisational goals.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
- Be able to obtain and maintain a baseline defence security clearance.
- Current or former Category C QFI (or higher) on either an E-7A Wedgetail, P-8A Poseidon or B737 BBJ.
- Current or former Category C QFI (or higher) at either No. 1 or 2 Flying Training Schools RAAF (or equivalent foreign Military).
- Instructional experience in synthetic devices.
- Experience in a safety management role.
- Experience working in a contractor environment (directly with customer).

Boeing Defence Australia specific site positions will have physical requirements which are applicable. Physical requirements are outlined by the recruitment manager in consultation with the Environment Health & Safety Department. A formal assessment of the physical requirements will need to be completed through the Environment Health & Safety Department for specific roles which would then reflect into the position description.
