Job description

About the role

At ANZ, our purpose is to shape a world where people and communities thrive. We’re making this happen by improving our customers’ financial wellbeing so they can achieve incredible things – be it buying their home, building a business, or saving for things big or small.

Understanding how our customers make financial choices in different contexts is essential for us to design products, services and experiences that improve their financial wellbeing, and fulfill our purpose.

The Behavioural Science Manager will partner with leaders and their teams to deliver evidence-based products, services, content, and experiences that accelerate and increase their impact.

As Behavioural Science Manager, you will drive impact by:

  • Applying Behavioural Science to Financial Wellbeing: Delivering better customer and commercial outcomes by applying behavioural science in key opportunity areas that can improve customer financial wellbeing and ANZ Group outcomes
  • Research: Producing scientific literature reviews, thought pieces and insights reports for various business teams to improve the impact and scale of their work
  • Design: Working with world-class service designers, UI/UX designers and VD designers to meaningfully improve the strategy and delivery of products, services, features and programs
  • Communication: Producing simple and easy-to-understand communications of scientific insights and project outputs to executive leaders to shape long term business decisions
  • Capability Development: Work with Talent specialists to produce efficient and scalable frameworks and programs to upskill the ANZ workforce on behavioural science thinking: key principles, experimentation mindset, measuring what matters, and developing an appreciation on how context matters
  • Experimentation: Work with business, delivery teams and world-class technology teams to jointly design rigorous randomised control trials to evaluate the impact of our interventions and grow our shared understanding of ‘what works’ in terms of improving financial wellbeing
  • Network with experts: Build external networks of experts in financial decision-making that can share latest insights with our teams through general speaker series events

What will your day look like

Together with your colleagues in FWRD (Financial Wellbeing, Research, Design), you will:

  • Develop a shared understanding of Financial Wellbeing: Ensure ANZ has a consistent and clear understanding of what financial wellbeing is, why it matters, how we measure it, and therefore what this means for the execution of ANZ’s strategy
  • Build a ways-of-working model: Work on building an ‘operating model’ for projects that embeds behavioural science, service design, customer research, data science and strategy consulting
  • Influence Evidence-based innovation: Increase adoption of evidence-based innovation practices across different business teams
  • Inform the future of Financial Wellbeing: Co-design a shared team vision on where financial wellbeing experiences will be in 5 years given the rapid advancements in technology and customer expectations

What will you bring?

The required knowledge, skills and experiences this role requires:

1.   Experience in Behavioural Science

  • Strong familiarity with behavioural science literature, particularly in the context of financial wellbeing and financial decision making
  • Demonstrable experience in producing compelling presentation and easy-to-understand communications of insights
  • Proficiency in statistical thinking, particularly in terms of experimental design and empirical methods in social science (e.g. regression analysis, descriptive analysis, RCTs, econometrics)

2.   Working with specialists

  • Experience applying evidence-based methods with data and design teams
  • Experience working with developers in scaled agile
