Job description

DESCRIPTION

The Amazon Marketplace team is looking for a high performing, motivated Business Intelligence Engineer to support our business in launching new dashboards and internal-facing data products. In this role you'll have the opportunity to deliver results using core AWS products including Redshift, Quicksight, S3, Sagemaker, EC2, Lambda and Glue. If you're a problem solver with the ability to dive deep into our huge data warehouse and produce scalable solutions, then this role is for you!

Our team supports other businesses who want to sell on Amazon. While we are based in Australia, we have a global scope as we support organisations who want to sell to globally and locally. The Business Intelligence team is critical to ensuring that our organisation is equipped with the right insights to drive decision making.

You'll be given the opportunity to own specific BI programs such as pricing and advertising, working with stakeholders to understand business problems, identify the relevant data and synthesise it into meaningful analyses. This can take the form of a deep dive into our metrics, developing a dashboard in AWS Quicksight, creating a data pipeline for BI self service or developing a machine learning model to improve our customer experience. You'll have the support of global analytics teams to share best practices as well as access to Quicksight product teams to provide feedback and request support.

As a Business Intelligence Engineer you'll be expected to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders. You'll be required to leverage Redshift SQL to develop queries and pull data into Quicksight to develop powerful visualisations. You'll also be expected to understand the metrics we report on and why they were implemented in a certain way to feed back to your stakeholders.

Our team operates out of our fabulous CBD office (conveniently located near many transportation options), and from home (during COVID-19) leveraging technology. Amazon offers employees a competitive remuneration package, including participation in the company stock plan as applicable. We also look after our people with benefits, such as subsidized private health insurance, superannuation and paid parental leave options, amongst others.

Key job responsibilities
  • Working with internal program leads to identify data sources and plug in gaps by developing data pipelines
  • Identify business needs and improvements to track the right metrics and ensure they are reported on
  • Becoming a subject matter expert on BI and data specific to programs that you own
  • Developing visualisations in Quicksight with functionality to support regular business reviews and to support deep dive analysis
  • Providing technical support to other stakeholders who want to develop their own solutions in Quicksight
  • Participating and contributing to technical reviews including code reviews and dashboard logic reviews
  • Maintaining documentation on how metrics were calculated and how the back-end data is processed
  • Following Amazon's ETL pipelines to extract data from our data warehouse, apply the required transformations and load it into Quicksight
A day in the life
You will have regular meetings with program stream leads to align on prioritisation of tasks and to identify new opportunities to improve our business using the data available.

We work in an agile format with fortnightly sprints planned each quarter. You'll attend sprint kickoffs and mid-sprint reviews to ensure you're tracking to achieve project goals within our set timelines.

There will be further opportunities to work on stretch projects that may include machine learning initiatives or software development that you will have the chance to work on.

About the team
You'll work within the Australian Business Intelligence team. You'll report to the Business Intelligence Lead for Amazon Marketplace in Australia and work alongside two other Business Intelligence Engineers. Our team supports the entire Amazon Marketplace business from an analytics and reporting perspective, however, we endeavor to provide the trainings and tools for our stakeholders to self-serve the information themselves.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Accounting or comparable field
  • Experience in Business Intelligence tools to produce visualisations (Tableau or Quicksight preferred)
  • Expert in SQL and ETL platforms and hands-on data warehouse experience (ideally AWS Redshift), as well as the ability to analyze Big Data to ensure metrics are accurate
  • Experience in leveraging Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tools to process data for visualisation
  • Experience delivering projects of varying scope where stakeholder engagement was required
  • Strong analytical skills including an intermediate knowledge of Excel
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in leveraging AWS Quicksight (or a similar dashboarding software) to produce visualisations
  • Experience with AWS services, particularly S3, Redshift, Quicksight and Sagemaker
  • Ability to adapt to a changing analytical environment where the scope of the project may change
  • Experience in managing stakeholder expectations, particularly where it mightn't be possible to achieve a direct copy of visualisations that had previously been produced in Tableau.
