Job description

  • Be supported via formal and informal training and mentoring from seasoned editorial talent
  • Access to all of News Corps amazing benefits
  • 12 Month program commencing in July 2023
This is an invitation to be part of the generation that shapes journalism's next era. We are offering the opportunity to learn and work across Australia's most diverse family of journalism brands. We will train you in journalism's core skills as well as provide the opportunity to learn the new techniques and technologies that are part of journalism's future. Our cadets will have the opportunity to excel in every facet of journalism, from grassroots community reporting to new and specialist areas of interest.

What are we looking for?

We strongly encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, professional disciplines and experiences. We are looking for cadets interested in developing across a range of areas, including:
  • Local: All great stories start at the grassroots. We are developing new ways of creating and sharing community journalism and building on the connections of our unrivalled network of local news brands.
  • Regional: The stories don't stop at the edge of the major cities. Regional audiences are growing, their needs are unique and their communities more passionate than ever. Their stories need to be told.
  • National: Our coverage and commitment to national affairs and issues is unsurpassed. From federal politics to national policy issues and national debates there are always stories to be told and debates to be shared.
  • Specialists: From the weather, to medical science, small business and the understanding of cryptocurrency; genuine subject matter expertise has never been more valuable. We welcome applications from people with deep interests and expertise.
  • Video, audio and rich media: Stories are no longer confined to one format or traditional rules of how they should be told. We need skills and innovation that embrace sound, movement, music and graphics to build on the power of our written words.
  • Data: Every number tells a story. The skills to use data to understand trends, patterns of behaviour and know when statistics are hiding the facts are now core skills for every news organisation. If you have them, we need to hear from you.
Who are you?
  • With a focus on achievement, you have sought out learning experiences in internships, leadership opportunities or community engagement
  • As a strong story teller, you have the skills to simplify information and convey a story in words, pictures, video and audio-experiences
  • Staying abreast of emerging technologies, you are experienced with social media tools and platforms and photo and video editing apps
  • Have a sustained interest in news, politics, sports, current affairs and community advocacy
  • As an adaptable and persistent individual, you are comfortable working in ambiguous situations and evolving environments
  • You are able to commence full time work in July 2023
What's in it for you?

Supportive and friendly environment. We encourage innovation, collaboration and creative thinking. Fun, fast-paced and excellent opportunities for growth and development.
  • Commencing July 2023, this is a twelve month program to develop your journalism experience through rotations in our metropolitan, national, broadcasting and regional newsrooms, with the opportunity to work on special projects throughout
  • Be supported via formal and informal training and mentoring from seasoned editorial talent
  • Access to all of News Corps amazing benefits including birthday leave, volunteer leave, access to our publications and products and exclusive discounts across a range of products and services.
