CASEWORKER (Dubbo)

Full-time Temporary 7 month position (Maternity Leave)

Westhaven is seeking a dedicated Caseworker to support and advocate for Children and Young People living with significant disability to live life the way they choose.

About the roleAs a Caseworker you will coordinate casework responsibilities for children and young people (CYP) within Westhaven.

Key responsibilities

  • Work as part of a Therapeutic Care Team, managing the casework cycle for children and young people in care
  • Ensure Case Plans are developed, reviewed and implemented within set timeframes
  • Maintain regular contact with children and young people, seek their views and opinions and monitor their wellbeing
  • Ensure that data is collected and recorded in a timely way
  • Ensure that Casework is conducted consistent with the requirements of the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG)

To be on the forefront of this opportunity you will:

  • Have knowledge and understanding of the Children and Young Person (Care and Protection) Act 1998, NSW Child Safe Standards for Permanent Care and trauma informed practices
  • Understand the supports and issues of children and young people living with significant disabilities
  • Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal communities, families and children specifically in relation to the placement of Aboriginal children and young people in OOHC
  • Be proficient in report writing, have demonstrated ability to develop, organise and maintain records in a timely manner using client management databases and Google Suite (or similar)
  • Have highly developed organisational skills, communication skills and conflict resolutions skills

Highly desirable attributes include:

  • Experience in case management, child protection, child welfare practice or related field
  • Experience working with people with a disability
  • Ability to coordinate the development, implementation and review Case Plans for children in out-of-home care

Essential requirements of the role

  • Bachelor degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a relevant Behavioural Science; or be of Indigenous decent and be willing to obtain qualifications
  • A current NSW Driver’s licence
  • Undertake a National Criminal Record Check
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a National Disability Insurance Scheme Workers Check (NDISWC)
  • Appropriately vaccinated against Covid-19 and able to provide evidence
