Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

First incorporated in 1979, the organisation was a finalist in the 2016 Reconciliation Australia, Indigenous Governance Awards and is one of the 10 largest Aboriginal Corporations in Australia.

The Opportunity

Tangentyere Employment Services (TES) delivers the Community Development Programme (CDP) for Alice Springs Town Campers, outstations in the region and Amoonguna. 

The CDP Activity LeaderTown Camps is responsible for the quality and effective delivery of Work Preparation Activities at Town Camps. The activities run at Town Camps are designed under the leadership of the Community Development Program (CDP) Coordinator and the local labour market needs. This position works closely with Town Camp residents to deliver quality activities that improve Town Camps and creates a sustainable, peaceful, safe, and positive way of life.

A key responsibility of the CDP Activity LeaderTown Camps is to ensure that all activities are designed and delivered in such a way as to enhance participants’ employability skills. While the successful attendance at the activity is important, the focus of the TES CDP Activities Program is on the development of skills, build confidence and overcoming barriers to obtain sustainable employment for participants.

Responsibilities

  • Maximise activity attendance and engagement of participants.
  • Develop, plan, consult and implement activity plans that are valued by the community, develop employability skills for the local labour market and are responsive to the needs and interests of job seekers.
  • Work with the CDP Coordinator, plan, quote and organise materials, equipment and workforce need for activities ensuring within budget.
  • Assess and incorporate relevant training and support services for participants to increase knowledge and skills, address barriers, and liaise with the TES Employment Consultants on a regular basis to stay informed and share jobseeker information.
  • Develop positive relationships with the community, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all vehicles, facilities, plant, and equipment are maintained and secured in accordance with organisational policy.
  • Adhere to Tangentyere Council Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
  • Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
  • Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

  • An understanding of Aboriginal Culture and issues impacting Indigenous people in Central Australia. 
  • Demonstrated ability of effective listening and communication skills.
  • An understanding of the barriers to employment and the ability to identify support services to assist in addressing barriers.
  • Ability to work constructively with employers, registered training organisations, community services and other stakeholders to increase employment opportunities for job seekers. 
  • Ability to oversee a range of small-scale activities that reflects the gender diversity and varied skill levels of the caseload.
  • Demonstrated ability of applying and teaching WHS practices including undertaking risk assessments.
  • Hold a current NT Drivers Medium Rigid class licence as a minimum.
  • Current NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired

  • Working experience and knowledge of the CDP IT system and a broad knowledge of Employment Services and the Community Development Programme.
  • Practical experience with home/garden skills and small-scale DIY projects.
  • Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.
