We are seeking an experienced and qualified Community Services professional with a passion for great hands-on, operational leadership to help take Lazarus to the Next Level!
About us
Lazarus Community Centre is dedicated to caring for the most vulnerable members of the Geelong community. Open 7 days a week during the day, we offer daily lunch, shower and laundry facilities, relaxation spaces and in-reach services to our primarily homeless clients. With a small and dedicated staff and a large team of wonderful volunteers, Lazarus is about to undertake an exciting expansion of our facility in 2024. We are looking for a Full Time Centre Manager with suitable skills and experience in a similar operation to join the team, reporting directly to the Board and leading the staff and volunteers in daily operations and the transition to our new facility whilst offering the best in client care.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of Lazarus ensuring continuity of client service and care, developing and implementing comprehensive standards and work practices for our in-demand service.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with suitable service providers, government agencies and authorities to offer a comprehensive referral service to our clients.
- Work closely with the volunteer Board to ensure the strategic plan of the organisation is delivered and best practice in risk management, OH&S and governance is achieved.
- Support the ongoing development and growth of 4 staff and 60 volunteers to meet the growing needs of the centre.
- Establish and maintain a presence in Geelong and surrounds as an advocate for Lazarus and our community, working with partners and donors to ensure a continual flow of resources to meet our needs.
- Over the next 18 months, oversee the expansion of our operation, working closely with the Board and contractors to achieve a safe and smooth transition into our extended premises and leading recruitment of an expanded volunteer team.
Skills and experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Welfare studies or relevant equivalent.
- Demonstrated understanding of the needs and issues of individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an operational leadership role in the community services sector.
- Strong leadership skills and vision; the ability to execute well on implementation of strategic plans and lead a team towards a common goal.
- Established relationships within the Geelong NFP and community services sector an advantage.
- Case management not required but case work experience with the homeless community is a plus.
- Additional qualifications in First Aid, Mental Health, Food Safety and OH&S highly regarded.
