Management - Universities (Education & Training) Oceania University of Medicine (OUM) has evolved from a local mission to better meet the health needs of underserved island communities into an accredited international medical school with a global student body. OUM blends interactive distance learning and traditional hands-on clinical training to bring medical education to students around the globe, helping aspiring medical practitioners overcome distance, personal, and professional barriers to achieve their dream of practicing medicine. OUM’s MD program is a rigorous medical school curriculum, typically completed in 4 to 4.5 years. The diversity of OUM’s student body is impressive, both in its range of professions and the native countries it represents. The majority of OUM students have many years of experience in the workforce, primarily in healthcare professions but also in a wide variety of other careers. OUM offers a preclinical phase as part of its MD program that delivers an introduction to the program with ‘General Principles’ followed by the delivery of organ system module units including: Cardiovascular, Endocrine, Gastrointestinal, Hematology & Immunology, Musculoskeletal, Neuroscience, Pulmonary, Reproduction, Urinary. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Chief Academic Officer (CAO) to spearhead the operational delivery of our academic goals and provide visionary leadership across OUM. As a vital member of our Senior Leadership Team, the CAO will collaborate closely with senior colleagues to drive excellence in academic leadership and strategic direction. This pivotal role requires strong leadership and management skills to cultivate a high-performance culture, set ambitious visions, engage in strategic planning, and effectively manage resources in partnership with the Vice Chancellor (VC) and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, the CAO will manage a diverse team including Regional Deans, Directors of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Education, Faculty Directors of Research, Associate Deans of Student Engagement, and various support roles. The ideal candidate for this senior staff position will possess a robust track record of academic excellence coupled with extensive experience in strategic and operational management. They should possess a thorough understanding of the higher education landscape both domestically and internationally. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to foster a culture of excellence in teaching, research, and service activities among colleagues. They must also demonstrate their proficiency in cultivating and nurturing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
