  • Remuneration Package: $115,787 - $125,931 (including salary $99,083 - $107,885).
  • Alice Springs or Timber Creek, Northern Territory.
The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security was established with a clear vision that the Northern Territory's natural assets are managed sustainably for the benefit of all. Its purpose is to provide evidence-based advice and regulation to support sustainable use of the Northern Territory's natural resources, and protect and manage its wildlife, parks and reserves. The Victoria River District incorporates Judbarra/Gregory National Park and Keep River National Park. The Central Australia Parks West District incorporates Watarrka National Park, Tjoritja/West MacDonnell National Park, Finke Gorge National Park and Owen Springs Reserve.
As the Chief District Ranger your primary objective will be to assist the District Manager and Director to manage a team to develop and deliver nature conservation, visitor management and interpretive programs and activities for parks and reserves in the relevant District.
Your key duties will include providing strategic leadership to promote a positive and safe workplace culture, and managing the development, implementation and monitoring of strategies and programs in accordance with the NT Parks Masterplan. You will be accountable for the district/park budget and be responsible for exercising financial and human resourcing delegations, powers delegated under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976, and implementing Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Where Joint Management arrangements are in place, you will apply your extensive communication and engagement skills to achieve positive outcomes for the park's joint management partners, as well as develop strong working relationships with government and non-government agencies, stakeholders, tourism, land councils and local Aboriginal organisations.
To be successful, you will require a relevant qualification from an Australian institution or equivalent experience; demonstrated leadership capabilities, incorporating financial and human resource management; well-developed analytical skills; and significant knowledge and experience in protected area management. The ability to deliver high quality biosecurity, natural and cultural heritage, and visitor management outcomes is essential.
This is a great opportunity to consider working in the Territory's specular environments, with rugged landscapes, unique wildlife and significant Aboriginal cultural values. You will be rewarded with a competitive salary package inclusive of 11% superannuation, 6 weeks recreational leave p.a., 17.5% annual leave loading and assistance with relocation. Subsided housing is provided for the position located in Timber Creek.
