The Organisation
Grameen Foundation Australia (known as Grameen Australia) is a not-for-profit organisation originally established in 1999 to fundraise and invest in microfinance and social business programs in Asia. Today, Grameen Australia focuses its efforts on alleviating poverty in Australia through the development of women-led microenterprises based on the Grameen model. It aims to enable 30,000 Australian women, particularly refugees, to build small businesses that generate incomes and meaningful livelihoods. With a focus on reaching women who are experiencing unemployment, financial exclusion and poverty, its unique model creates opportunities to realise financial independence in a social and supportive environment.
The organisation is founded on the highly successful Grameen model developed by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Professor Muhammad Yunus. Since the late 1970s, Grameen’s programs have expanded to 59 countries and positively impacted more than 300 million people around the world, including in developed countries such as the USA and now Australia. Grameen Australia has ambitious plans for growing its impact, effectiveness and capacity. This represents an exciting time to join and lead this organisation.

About the role

The Position
Reporting to the Board, the incoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will steer the organisation through the delivery of a new business model, and provide visionary leadership to drive performance in all aspects of Grameen’s mission. With an opportunity to build a team and expand the footprint nationally, the CEO is accountable for the achievement of the organisation’s strategic objectives, goals and local success. You will be an experienced influential leader, strong advocate and innovative change agent. You will have a track record in leading a services-based organisation and working with a Board. You will bring an inherent desire to tackle big picture community challenges, combining this with collaborative relationships and networks across multiple stakeholders. A passion for philanthropy and a highly innovative approach to fund-raising are required, matched with strong commercial acumen. An understanding of government, social justice, microfinance, and not-for-profit sectors will be an advantage.
