The Company
Salmon Tasmania is a not for profit, peak body that has been driving world leading research, informing responsible policy, contributing on-water knowledge, and offering regional, national and global food system solutions since the 1980’s.
Salmon Tasmania was established over 30 years ago by its original members, and now operates under a membership of three – Tassal Group Ltd, Huon Aquaculture Group and Petuna Ltd. Together these members include the largest aquaculture companies in Australia and make up the largest fishery in Australia. Internationally recognised for its innovation, the industry continues to be one of Tasmania’s great success stories of the past 30 years.
The Position
The Chief Executive officer (CEO) is a full time, permanent appointment responsible for the leadership and management of Salmon Tasmania including the execution of all strategic, operational, technical, financial, accounting, communications and administrative functions.
The position has accountability to set and deliver agreed strategic objectives in line with budget and secretariat resources with responsibility for the development, implementation and execution of the annual work plan as approved by the board. In addition, you will oversee a small team of professionals, manage the R& D portfolio and growth of the sector as well as lead and manage the public image of the industry including proactive management to Government departments and related agencies.
The Person
To be successful in this high-profile position, you will possess the following background, skills and key attributes:
Demonstrated high level skills in providing strategic direction and effective leadership ideally reporting directly to a Chair & Board
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management across government, media, and other industry organisations
Proven ability to raise the profile of an organisation through sound policy development and advocacy
Highly developed commercial acumen including financial reporting, budgeting, business planning and governance
Ability to define, drive and deliver to a strategy in a timely manner
Proven ability in leading and motivating a small team of professionals to achieve strategic and operational objectives
Ability to utilise analytical and negotiation skills to resolve complex issues
Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with stakeholders who may hold a diverse range of views and objectives
Demonstrated resilience and sound strength of character
High levels of drive and energy to push through at times, difficult situations
Tertiary qualifications in a business, economics or communications related discipline
