Coomalie Community Government Council (est.1991) is a progressive Northern Territory Shire Council, situated one hour’s drive south of Darwin. The Council governs an area of 2064 km² and has an estimated population of 1,355. (Source ABS 2021 Census).
The Council is made up of up to 17 staff, both full time and part time across fields such as Works and Services; Finance, Audit and Risk; Community Recreation; and Office Administration. Council operates on a budget of $3.9M and has a Rates base of approximately 1000 land parcels. Own source funding generates around 50% of the Shire’s income. Council maintains a road network, parks, public swimming pool, playgrounds, community assets, libraries, cemetery, waste management sites/transfer stations and depots. Council uses local contractors to provide services in some of these areas. It also provides a community recreation resource.
