About the Shire of Glenelg and Council
The Shire of Glenelg is located in the south-western corner of the state of Victoria covering 6,219 square kilometres of unique and natural environment and a geographically dispersed vibrant, inclusive community with a population of 19,665.

The role of the CEO
Reporting to and working closely with a collaborative and community focused Mayor and Councillors, Glenelg Shire Council are seeking a visionary CEO who is comfortable being in the spotlight as your role as the CEO will be high profile and impactful with a focus on delivering best practice community outcomes. You will need to truly establish and embed yourself within the Glenelg Shire municipality, forging collaborative working relationships and partnerships with diverse stakeholder groups, including but not limited to, local and state government agencies; the community and key businesses and industries.
You will be charged with setting the strategic direction for Council with a focus on best practice governance and fiscal sustainability; innovation and productivity improvements; culture and diversity; economic growth and sustainability and emerging sectors such as renewables.
From a staff leadership perspective, you will provide your passionate council staff with strategic and empowering leadership to support a high performance, positive culture and alignment to a shared Council Vision.
What we’re seeking for the next CEO
To be considered for the role of CEO with Glenelg Shire Council, you will be naturally entrepreneurial, innovative and future focused and while advantageous, you don’t need to come from a Local Government background, but you do need to have worked in complex customer service organisations and have demonstrated experience impacting lasting change for your customers or community.
You are a visionary, contemporary and engaging executive leader who is recognised for your strategic, results orientated approach and formidable financial and governance skills. You are politically astute and recognised for your engaging style and interpersonal skills that will allow you to quickly form and maintain credible and respectful relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across the municipality and beyond; with your Councillor group and your staff.
Qualifications in Business or similar is expected and AICD qualifications and membership will be held in high regard.
