Job description

About the organisation

Organisation Name : Cleaning Accountability Framework

About the role

  • Stop the exploitation of cleaners and tackle modern slavery head-on
  • Drive commercialisation beyond successful start-up phase
  • Suits candidates from human/labour rights or property services industry

The Organisation

Cleaning Accountability Framework (CAF) is a world-first, game-changing organisation that exists to end the exploitation of vulnerable workers and to promote human rights and responsible business practices in the property services industry.  CAF works with the union, government, academia, and the property services industry to protect and advance the rights of cleaners in Australia, and to address modern slavery risk in supply chains.

Specifically, CAF has developed and promotes an industry-leading Standard that is used to assess property assets and through the CAF Certification Scheme provides a credible framework to measure social compliance within the cleaning industry.  Investors, property owners, building managers, cleaning contractors and tenants benefit from improved procurement processes and reduced risks, while cleaners are assured of fair pay and entitlements and decent working conditions.

The Role

Based in Sydney or Melbourne the CEO provides inspirational leadership and vision to grow a commercially sustainable and ethical organisation. Internally you will support and energise a highly productive team, work with the board of directors, whilst continuing to build a healthy and values-driven culture. Externally you will drive respect for labour rights across the property services industry and generate real results, by growing the clientele for CAF’s certification offering.

Since its inception, CAF has established itself as a highly regarded ethical procurement and anti-modern slavery mechanism, supporting clients, and driving real changes for vulnerable workers through collaboration, education, advocacy and certification activities.

The CEO will be leading CAF’s trajectory as it scales up from an impactful, growing start up to a highly influential and broad reaching organisation. CAF is well positioned to capitalise on the growing expectations by investors and clients around sustainable and ethical procurement as well as regulatory requirements such as the Modern Slavery Act.

Skills Required

You have demonstrated your commitment to CAF’S mission through senior leadership roles gained in either the commercial or government sectors, the union and human rights movements, or like-minded campaigning groups. You are a skilled business developer with the ability to grow and commercialise CAF’s unique certification offering in the market. You have exceptional interpersonal skills, and with stakeholder management experience ideally across CAF’s partner groups or similar.

Ideally you will have expertise in sustainability, ethical supply chains, labour or human rights and an understanding of how marginalised workforces are impacted by poor working conditions.  Your technical and analytical expertise is complemented by your strong cross-functional leadership experience including your ability to inspire teams whilst building significant organisational capacity

Additionally, you bring:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of unions and/or experience working with unions
  • Expertise in business development strategy development and implementation
  • Demonstrated track record of financial oversight, risk management and team leadership
  • High levels of emotional intelligence with the ability to inspire and influence others
  • Experience with securing sponsorship, administering grants, and contractual agreements
  • Management and implementation of membership acquisition and retention activities
  • Successful representation of organisations in public forums and media

If you’re passionate about labour rights and abolishing modern slavery, and have the skills to grow then please submit your expression of interest including a cover letter responding to the skills required above and a resume. Alternatively call Hayley Martin on 02 8243 0570 to discuss your interest.

Please note there is no formal closing date for this role, if you are interested we would encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
