A fabulous opportunity now exists for an ambitious finance professional to lead the City’s’ financial services group as Chief Financial Officer.
The Role
As the Chief Financial Officer, reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be leading a dedicated and talented team of finance professionals, all focused on supporting the City to deliver a vision for a vibrant, economically diversified and sustainable Coffs Harbour region. Further, the role will support a culture of financial discipline and accountability, transparency and continuous improvement in the organisation, providing financial leadership and reliability to the Coffs Harbour region, its people and the future.
Functionally the role of CFO exercises overall responsibility for the operations of the financial services unit including the delivery of the financial statutory and legislative reporting requirements of the City. Crucial to the success of this role is the proactive, quality analysis and evaluation of financial performance.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the delivery of:
- a balanced budget and Long Term Financial Plan both in the short and long term
- a sustainable and realistic annual capital works program
- tightly managed Balance Sheet and
- high-quality and timely financial and partnering services across the organisation, including, Financial Planning, Financial Support and associated services
- Lead the delivery of effective and outcome focused Procurement, Logistics and Fleet services
- Develop and implement outcomes-focused and tangible financial management strategies and procedures which are compliant with the Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework, internal policies, Australian Accounting Standards, and taxation and legislative requirements
- Fulfil the legislative role of Responsible Accounting Officer and drive initiatives to further strengthen and improve the City’s ongoing financial sustainability
- Proactively partner and support other Groups across the City in the optimisation of financial deliverables and the application of financial management policies and practices through:
- Providing specialist, targeted and consultative advice on financial optimisation and cost management matters
- Monitoring, reviewing and recommending improvements to financial management related processes by anticipating the needs of internal and external customers
- Working with all Leaders to ensure the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial information
- Provide thought leadership, targeted mentoring and management to the Financial Services Group

As an experienced finance professional and leader of people, you will have a history of delivering sound financial organisational capability, building cultures that you and the organisation are proud of and being firmly focused on outcomes. As would be expected of such a role, well developed communication skills are essential as is the ability to develop effective partnerships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholder groups.
Lastly, it is expected that as well as being degree qualified in Finance or Accounting, you will be either CA or CPA accredited.
