The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) is Australia’s audio-visual cultural institution. The NFSA collection includes over 4 million items including films, television and radio programs, videos, audio recordings and video games. The collection also includes contextual materials such as costumes, scripts, props, artefacts, photographs and promotional materials. Public programs and services ensure that the collection is available for enjoyment, learning, research and for re-use by creators. In the digital age, the NFSA’s wealth of stories will be increasingly available across the country, and on demand as set out in NFSA Strategic Direction 2022-25.

Job Description

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will manage the ICT Section and will play a key role in the strategic and operational activities of the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA). This role leads key ICT functions and goals comprising network management, applications and desktop support, telephony, information management, data analysis, and cyber security. The CIO will be responsible for the design and implementation of the NFSA ICT strategy, ensuring the NFSA has a solid, flexible and robust ICT infrastructure in place to support the core business activities of today and into the future.

Job Details

Under broad direction undertake the following duties:
Providing strategic and operational direction and advice on all ICT matters (including systems architecture, information management, data management, metadata and interoperability), including development, communication and ongoing review of the NFSA’s ICT Strategic direction.
Managing the ongoing development of the NFSA’s digital collection infrastructure.
Creating and leading a cohesive multi-disciplinary team, to ensure they deliver high quality, timely and effective ICT practices and services.
Managing the NFSA ICT cost centre operational and capital budgets.
Managing the ICT relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
Developing ICT, protocols and operational procedures.
Project managing the implementation of new systems and ICT solutions in-line with best practice and the Australian Government Security Frameworks.
Coordinate the duties of the IT Security Adviser (ITSA) for the NFSA.
Participate in, and sometimes lead, relevant NFSA working groups.
regular reporting, insights and analysis of key performance data.
Mentor and support team members.

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications and/or equivalent experience required:
Demonstrated capability through past employment experience and relevant tertiary and/or industry qualifications is required for this role.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically, analyse and understand business requirements and deliver high level ICT related advice, planning, systems, strategies, policies and processes that complement and support NFSA’s goals and obligations.
Demonstrated high-level professional ICT skills and knowledge and understanding of current ICT issues related to an audio-visual organisation (or equivalent) in an Australian Government agency.
Demonstrated experience working with the latest software, hardware and practices in large scale media asset management and associated information management including digital content.
Proven leadership ability and personal attributes of a high order including strong initiative and drive, a record of innovation and achievement, strong people management skills and a demonstrated ability to lead change.
Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to create and foster collaborative and productive relationships with internal clients and external stakeholders.

An interest in audiovisual culture.

Be an Australian Citizen;
