Penrith City Council is the largest local government child care service provider in NSW, with more than 40 child care services annually catering for 4,000 children. Committed to providing Children's Services programs for the benefit of families and children across the City, we offer a variety of child care services including Long Day Care, Vacation and Out of School Hours Care, Preschools and a Mobile Playvan and are at the leading edge of implementing curriculum for the intellectual, social and physical development of the children within our care.

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic Cook's to work part-time preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children aged 0-12 years. With good communication, you will work in partnership with your team and parents to ensure that the children’s nutritional needs are catered for.

You must have training in nutrition, menu planning and hygiene, and hold a completed qualification in Hospitality, Commercial Cookery, Nutrition and Dietetics, Home Economics or equivalent.

Experience cooking in a Children’s Centre is essential.

We have permanent part-time positions available, working 25 hours per week. Opportunities may be available to undertake additional hours in the capacity of Child Care Assistant or Child Care Aide, subject to holding the approved qualifications.

The criteria to be addressed in your application is below:
Essential criteria

Completed qualification in Hospitality, Commercial Cookery, Nutrition and Dietetics, Home Economics or equivalent
Relevant experience and proven skills in food preparation and budgeting
Experience cooking in a Children’s Service
Demonstrated communication and teamwork skills
A current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
Commitment to support the effective inclusion of children with disabilities and additional needs
An understanding of the nutritional needs of children

Commencing salary: $31.64 - $36.62 per hour, plus 10.5% Superannuation.

This position has been identified as a Child-Related position under Child Protection laws in NSW. To be eligible to apply, you are required to provide Council with a valid Working with Children Check Number.

This position requires the worker to be double vaccinated against COVID-19 or to hold a medical contraindication certificate.

You will be required to undertake background checks, including a Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and a Functional Test as relevant to the position for which you have applied.
