POSITION OVERVIEW
Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) sits within the Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol & Drug division of CHS. CAMHS provides assessment and treatment for children and young people up to the age of 18 years who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues.
The Childhood Early Intervention Program (CEIP) is a specialist team within CAMHS with a focus on mental health well-being and early intervention for primary school aged children. The CEIP is a multidisciplinary team that work in collaboration with the Education Department and Community Services Directorates.
CEIP deliver both group and individual based intervention and support to children and families within ACT primary schools as well as mental health in-reach and secondary consultation to the Child and Family Centres.
The role contributes to the success of CHS through collaboration with ACT primary schools and other key stakeholders to develop and deliver services to ensure the consistent early detection, treatment and prevention of emerging severe social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in primary school aged children.
DUTIES
Under limited direction of the CAMHS CEIP Team Manager you will perform group-based and individual early intervention well-being support to young people and families in ACT primary schools as well via consultation to Child and Family Centres and other key stakeholders in the ACT. You will:
Implement the delivery of an early intervention program and provide both group based and individual intervention, assessment and support to children and families/carers.
Provide clinical support, education and consultation to, as well as work in partnership with, other CAMHS teams, ACT Primary Schools, Child and Family Centres and other relevant agencies.
Work collaboratively as a multi-disciplinary team member, contributing discipline specific clinical expertise and participation in research, quality initiatives and contributions to the multidisciplinary team needs and processes.
Undertake clinical supervision and professional development activities and provide clinical supervision as required.
Work within the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:
- Relevant degree in social work/psychology/occupational therapy qualifications and a minimum of 3 years’ experience working professionally in the respective field.
- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Occupational Therapists must be registered or eligible for registration with Occupation Therapy Board of Australia and eligible for professional membership of Occupational Therapy Australia.
- Psychologists must be registered or be eligible for general registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Social workers must have professional membership or be eligible for professional membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and must have registration under the ACT Working with Vulnerable People Act 2011
- Experience working therapeutically with children, young people or families with a mental health context.
- Experience delivering group programs.
- A thorough understanding of child development.
- Availability for occasional out of hours work, with access to time off in lieu.
- Have an understanding of how the National Standards and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
- Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
- Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening, and vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Working with vulnerable people (WWVP) registration (act.gov.au)
- Comply with CHS credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.
WHAT YOU REQUIRE
These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience:
Demonstrated clinical experience working with children and families within a mental health assessment and evidence-based practice model, including administration of screening and psychometric tools.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of early intervention practices and childhood development theory and models.
Demonstrated group work experience and ability to tailor and lead group-based interventions.
Experience and sound skills in the provision of mental health literacy training, liaison and consultation to the multidisciplinary team, families and other community service providers as well as maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders.
Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work, Health, and Safety (WHS) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of Reliable, Progressive, Respectful, and Kind.
