Your New Role

If you specialise in Chinese cuisine we have several career opportunities within our Catering team based at our facilities at Somerton. Reporting to the Executive Chef - Operations, you will be responsible for producing food items according to the approved specifications and recipes. 

What you will be doing day-to-day: 

  • Responsible for the production of specialty meals and recipe development (ethnic, pastry, etc.).
  • Ensures all related administrative work is executed in a timely fashion.
  • As an active member of the SPICE program, updates the latest trends and techniques in culinary.
  • Actively engages with the customer and understands their needs and requirements.
  • Conducts and prepares menu presentations together with Menu Development team to develop new and innovative dishes for customers.
  • Responsible for the preparation and cooking of food items according to approved specification and recipes. To ensure that food preparation is made on time within designated schedules. 
  • Check all materials and foodstuff ensuring that they are used before spoilage.
  • Keep all food preparation areas clean at all times.
  • Supervising tasks being performed by Catering Assistants and unqualified chefs in designated section. 
  • Maintain efficient sanitation services, garbage disposal and chilling systems that comply with the regulations and requirements of the Gate Gourmet HACCP plan.
  • Compile reports and documents as required.
  • Promote a safe work environment at all times. 

We are interested in speaking with individuals who possess:

  • Specalises in Chinese cuisine. 
  • In-flight catering experience or experience in a high-volume food service environment is an advantage
  • Vocational training in culinary and related hygiene course is highly desirable.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work across a 7-day roster
  • Demonstrable experience in the desired specialty cuisines required
  • Supervisory experience working in a high volume, manufacturing, food production and restaurant or catering environment is an advantage
  • Qualification as a Chef by trade 
  • Management/Leadership qualification an advantage
