The Baden Powell Activity Centre is an Outdoor Education (OE) and recreation facility providing schools and community groups with high quality OE programs and services specialising in outdoor and expedition-based activities.

Situated on 36 hectares adjoining Lane Cove National Park, the Baden-Powell Activity Centre offers flexible training facilities, adventurous activities, and cabin-style accommodation in a tranquil bush land setting only 25 kilometres from Sydney CBD.

Purpose of the Position

The Cleaning & Gardening Coordinator is fundamental to the maintenance and visual appearance of Baden Powell Activity Centre. This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the upkeep the facility.

Responsibilities & Duties

General Cleaning

  • Maintain an overall high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation of the facility. 
  • General cleaning of the Pax Hill Building, John Hill Training Building, Colin Doust Dining Hall and Kitchen area, and Lyon Barton Hall, along with smaller buildings as needed.
  • Adhere to the facility cleaning checklists.
  • Liaise with cleaning suppliers to ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained.
  • Clean toilets as required.

Housekeeping & Turnover

  • Manage linen and laundry requirements, including liaising with linen cleaning supplier and organising pickups and drop offs in a timely manner for bookings.
  • Prepare and clean rooms to the highest quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure security and privacy of guests, always demonstrating integrity and diligence.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and proactively report of any hazards, faulty or damaged equipment to senior staff/Centre Manager.
  • Provide efficient, friendly, and professional service to all guests.
  • Demonstrate willingness to be available for additional duties as required.

Maintenance & Gardening

  • Regularly mow and trim lawns and edges.
  • Clear debris from paths, grassed areas, flowerbeds, and all entrances.
  • Weed, feed and water gardens. 
  • Trim Hedges and garden beds and make sure it is kept neat and tidy. 
  • Ensure drains are clear to prevent flooding over roads and pathways. 
  • Report any damage or defects to the Centre Manager so that arrangements can be made to make repairs. 
  • Politely instruct guests of the grounds not to damage trees or plant life or harass animal life.
  • Keep all surfaces free of moss and weeds. 
  • Regularly clean pits, drains and toilet blocks. 
  • Clean and maintain air conditioners filters.
  • Ensure all outdoor areas are litter free – recycle materials where appropriate. 
  • Change lamps, tap washers and attend to any other minor handyman repairs as directed by the Centre Manager.

Key Capabilities & Requirements

Qualification, Training & Experience

  • Previous experience in cleaning and or housekeeping.
  • Previous experience in gardening.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Highly organised.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently, autonomously and with limited supervision.
  • An ethical approach to work, self-motivated and enjoys achieving results.


Essential Requirements

  • Right to work in Australia

  • Mandatory Training
  • First Aid Certificate
  • CPR Certificate

Clearances

Prior to commencement of duties, the Cleaning & Gardening Coordinator is required to hold a current Working with Children Check clearance (Employed), provide results of a National Police Check and have undergone a background check.
