The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Data Scientist with expertise in epidemiology and health economics to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working with healthcare data to model and understand population healthcare experiences. This role blends data science workflows, health economics, and epidemiology to provide actionable insights and improve the health outcomes of our membership base. The role will be focused on identifying and developing opportunities to implement new models of care to support the population health of an health insurance membership


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct statistical and machine learning analyses on large datasets of health insurance members to derive insights and understand healthcare utilization patterns.
  • Develop and implement models to segment and stratify the population based on healthcare utilization and other relevant metrics.
  • Identify trends and insights to inform strategies aimed at improving the health of the membership population.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, clinicians, and business stakeholders, to ensure the successful implementation of analytical projects.
  • Communicate complex analytical findings and insights in a clear and actionable manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data science, health economics, and epidemiology.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Epidemiology, Health Economics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a healthcare setting, utilizing healthcare data to derive insights and model population health experiences.
  • Strong proficiency in statistical analysis and machine learning techniques.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Python, R and SQL.
  • Knowledge of health insurance data and familiarity with claims data, electronic health records (EHR), and other healthcare data sources.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex data and insights to a diverse audience of non technical and non clinical stake holders.
  • Knowledge of healthcare policies and regulations is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with open-source programming languages such as R and Python.
  • Proficiency in retrieving and accessing data from large data warehouses using SQL.
  • Experience with data engineering workflows is a plus.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Background in health economics, including cost-effectiveness analysis and health outcome research.
  • Familiarity with epidemiological study design and analysis.

What you will be specifically doing:

You will be involved in the following areas of the business:

  • Evaluating the effectiveness and benefits of the health care programs we provide to clients of Honeysuckle Health
  • Designing and applying methodologies to undertake these evaluations
  • Designing, developing and testing data science models to assist our clinical teams identify and enroll potential customers into our health management programs based on data available from previous clinical interactions and hospitalization data.
  • Analyzing and evaluating different options for hospital funding models and how different scenarios will impact financial and clinical outcomes.
