Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) - Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service

  • An exciting opportunity to support change within the forensic youth mental health sector
  • RPN5 | Full time & Part Time Fixed Term opportunity 
  • Based in the emerging Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct Mental Health Unit

Your new team: Forming part of the Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville, Malmsbury and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers.

Orygen and Youth Justice staff will work collaboratively to support young people voluntarily admitted to the new Mental Health Unit (MHU) at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Custodial Precinct. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of something that hasn’t been done before!

Your new role:  

As an integral member of the Custodial FYMHS team, you will be responsible for assisting the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) in developing, maintaining and evaluating the MHU. In this role, you will also:

  • Demonstrate superior consolidated clinical skills at a proficient level and will focus on development of clinical mental health nursing across Custodial FYMHS
  • Demonstrate and uphold best practice nursing care and recovery standards
  • Collaborate with the leaderships and contribute towards an appropriately skilled workforce including: mentorship, particularly to early career clinicians; bed-based nursing development in order to address priority issues

  • Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to provide expert clinical consultancy and dissemination of key information across a range of key internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership within mental health nursing with proven ability to mentor and develop the mental health-nursing workforce within a coaching framework
  • Knowledge and application of contemporary theories and techniques of practice that underlie mental health care and management of challenging behaviours
