What you'll be doing
The Clinical Nurse Consultant will provide leadership and education in the provision of best practice, evidenced based mental health services in the Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital Emergency Department and Mental Health Service.
Central to the role will be timely, comprehensive and efficient assessment, care planning and care delivery for Emergency Department consumers referred to the Mental Health Service. The position will be required to foster and develop robust relationships with key stakeholders in particular Emergency Department staff and inpatient mental health facilities across the Northern Sydney Local Health District.
This position will be responsible for the management of consumer flow for mental health in the ED afterhours and proactively assist with ensuring that Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP) Targets are met. In collaboration with ED and other staff, the CNC1 will develop and evaluate quality improvement processes pertaining to mental health care in the ED and research projects as indicated.
The roster will cover afternoon and night shifts 7 days a week and morning shifts on weekends and public holidays

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

- Authority to practice as a Registered Nurse from AHPRA with at least 5 years full -time equivalent post registration experience and extensive clinical experience within mental health settings with relevant post graduate tertiary qualifications (or working towards same) within mental health nursing with extensive education and training of current evidence based, best practice within the mental health field.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead evidence based nursing practice in the assessment, care planning and care delivery of people with complex mental health issues in an acute setting.
- Demonstrated ability in the development and delivery of educational resources and programs.
- Demonstrated advanced clinical skills in mental health clinical assessment and management including use of Information data systems including firstnet and eMR.
- Proven ability to provide clinical leadership to ED and generalist clinicians in the management of mental health consumers with demonstrated high level ability to network and communicate across a range of internal and external key partners.
- Current knowledge and high level of understanding of Mental Health Strategic Plans, Standards, Circulars and Policy Frameworks which have an impact on current mental health practice with the ED.
- Demonstrable understanding and experience of consumer participation in service delivery and care.
