Where you'll be working
PECC Unit at Hornsby Hospital is a 6 bed unit operating in Hornsby Ku-ring-Gai Hospital under the governance of NSLHD mental Health Drug and Alcohol within Hornsby Ku-ring-Gai Mental Health Services.

What you'll be doing

The NSLHD Nursing and Midwifery Workforce will be compassionate, competent, confident, contemporary, capable and committed to leading person-centred health care.

The intention of the NSLHD MHDA is to provide recovery-oriented, trauma informed services that are guided by evidence based practices and collaboration.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) within PECC at HKH will coordinate and provide high quality nursing care, specialising in the assessment, planning and implementation of strategies to manage consumers with mental illnesses and in collaboration with individual/s and the greater health care team to achieve quality consumer care outcomes.

The CNS will act as an expert clinician in relation to nursing care and collaborate with allied health and other relevant clinicians as required. CNS will implement the concept of clinical governance in care delivery and provide an expert patient centred consultancy practice participating in patient care within the MH speciality. The CNS will attend meetings and committees relating to the nursing practice and clinical management.

The incumbent will participate in quality improvement initiatives, research projects and the development and implementation of new clinical practices

The CNS will act as a resource and mentor to others in relation to clinical practice and service delivery, including AIN's, EN's and RN's. The incumbent will dispense clinical advice to less experienced nurses and other health professionals.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them
  • Division 1 Registered Nurse with post registration qualification relevant to speciality and at least 3 years experience working in the clinical area of their post graduate qualification
  • Evidence of and commitment to patient/customer focused care, clinical governance and quality improvement
  • Evidence of advanced level of knowledge and skill related to management of speciality area
  • Demonstrated knowledge in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery and outcomes, models of care, evidence based practice and practice development.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy in Microsoft Applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team, with an emphasis on service delivery, quality of care and team cohesion.
