The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to work in the heart of the next stage of commercialisation transformation at Monash!
The Commercialisation Manager - Physical Sciences will work collaboratively across the Monash University commercialisation ecosystem, and with external stakeholders to manage the commercialisation pathway for inventions at Monash. This will span the lifecycle of an invention into a commercialisation deal, from invention assessment through to identifying partnership and development opportunities and securing commercialisation deals. This position will also work alongside the New Ventures team to explore and create spinout opportunities from Monash IP.
This position will work on opportunities from a broad area of science-based disciplines, with a focus on physical sciences in engineering, IT and chemistry.
The Commercialisation Manager - Physical Science works across academia, industry and investment to support the university to translate inventions into the real world!
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in negotiating commercial and legal agreements for commercialisation of IP, as well as experience in commercialisation of technology and commercial research. The candidate will have a solid scientific background in a physical sciences or IT field and be able to broadly understand scientific discoveries in these areas. Essential to this role is superior interpersonal skills in order to build strong networks and relationships both internally and externally, and in a commercial context within a large organisation.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Can you provide information on your experience and approach to assessing a new piece of IP?
- An understanding and experience in negotiating commercialisation deals, focusing on licencing and spinouts is critical. Can you give an indication of your level of experience in these areas, focussing on the number of deals you have worked on and your role?
- Building a strong network with industry and investors is a key part of this role. Can you provide an example of how you have built a network and how your network has helped lead to a commercialisation deal?
- Developing strong relationships across the university, with particular focus on business development managers and key academics is important. Can you reflect on your approach to building new relationships and how you like to communicate?
