About the Organisation


The GasFields Commission is about to embark on an expansion of its remit to cover coexistence matters relevant to the renewable energy sector and other parts of the resources sector (i.e. critical mineral). Originally established as an independent statutory body under the GasFields Commission Act 2013, the GasFields Commission's purpose is to manage and improve the sustainable coexistence of landholders, regional communities, and the onshore gas industry in Queensland. This expansion into renewable energy and resources is an exciting time and the Commission is looking for a highly skilled Communications and Media Manager to lead the development and delivery of strategic Communications and Media strategies that will make this transition as effective as possible.


About the Role


As Communications and Media Manager, you will be an active member of the Commission's leadership team and will be directly responsible for the day-to-day management, as well as the professional development of a small team.


Your duties will include, but not be limited to:



  • Overseeing the management of the Communications and Media Team to ensure it delivers on strategic and organisational priorities;

  • Leading, developing, and implementing high level integrated communication strategies and initiatives for both external and internal audiences;

  • Providing specialist communication advice to the Commission's leadership team on the organisation's response to emerging stakeholder issues and opportunities;

  • Working in collaboration with the Commission's Chief Executive Officer and Stakeholder Engagement Team in developing and implementing strategic and operational stakeholder engagement activities;

  • Developing stakeholder communication materials for a variety of audiences around complex legislative, and technical issues;

  • Planning for and delivering key Commission events;

  • Having a deep understanding of the local and state media landscape and Media needs and transforming that understanding into innovative ideas for continual improvement;

  • Developing and maintaining collaborative and productive relationships with a range of external stakeholders including rural landholders, community groups, researchers, local governments, state government agencies, media, resource companies and industry peak bodies;

  • Tracking, analysing, and evaluating communication efforts and adjusting communication plans where needed to achieve best possible results;

  • Delivering strong project management skills to successfully deliver projects on time, and on budget; and

  • Proactively identifying and leveraging opportunities to build the reputation of the Commission and its brand.


About the Person


You will be a Senior Manager with demonstrated experience in managing high-profile, high-risk content areas looking at both proactive and reactive issues management strategies. You will have experience in managing strategic communications projects and high-profile media related matters and will manage one direct report - an AO7 Principal Communications Officer.


You will also have:



  • An understanding of the full communications spectrum including stakeholder engagement, internal communications, government relations, media relations and crisis communications;

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal;

  • Strong stakeholder relation skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse audiences;

  • A strategic mindset with the ability to provide counsel to senior leaders as well as the ability and desire to be hands on and execute on strategy;

  • Strong leadership skills with a collaborative and team focussed attitude; and

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, public policy or similar or equivalent experience would be highly regarded.
