Communications Officer

The Opportunity

This role plays a pivotal role in the development and implementation of communication and promotional activities across Council operations. The role is responsible for assisting in the management of Council’s reputation through the implementation of Council’s Communication Strategy. This includes managing Council's media channels and fostering a positive image for the organisation among both internal stakeholders and residents. You'll leverage a range of media, communications and community engagement tools to achieve this.

About you

You have exceptional verbal, written and digital communication skills, including videography. From creating media releases and responses, preparing weekly e-news, to contributing to a raft of regular and one-off projects where creative thinking, high calibre communications skills are required.

Your ability to create engaging and accurate content is underpinned by a demonstrated understanding of, and passion for utilising diverse communication tools. You are able to manage multiple projects and deliver high quality outputs within tight timeframes. Above all, you will be a collaborative team player who is confident operating at all levels of the organisation and with the community.

Essential Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, journalism, public and or media relations and a minimum two years’ experience in a similar role
  2. Strong written and verbal skills including researching, writing, editing, and proofreading adaptable to a range of projects and audiences.
  3. Proven ability to develop rapport and engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to foster and sustain partnerships
  4. ability to collaborate to develop creative ideas, curate and write content using a range of communication tools
  5. Demonstrated use of initiative, innovation, decision making and time management skills to best utilise resources, create efficiencies and prioritise demands.
  6. Experience developing, implementing, monitoring, reporting and evaluating communication strategies and initiatives.
  7. Advanced computer and technology skills with experience in writing and/or editing, creating publications using Mail Chimp software, Canva and managing a corporate image across multiple social media channels.
  8. Knowledge of current communication and marketing issues and trends, including digital marketing and proven ability to use this to improve communication outcomes.
  9. Have a current C Class Drivers Licence.
  10. Be willing to undergo a Nation Police Check before commencing.
