About the role

The Keep Embracing Your Success (KEYS) program, delivered in partnership with MacKillop Family Services and Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA), is a multidisciplinary program for young people aged 13-16 years experiencing highly complex emotional and behavioural challenges due to adversity who are currently in, or are likely to be placed in, residential care. KEYS, a transitional model, takes a new approach to supporting highly vulnerable young people utilising holistic, trauma informed therapeutic approaches.

We are seeking highly resilient, self-aware Community Mental Health Practitioner for a permanent, part time (26 hours per week) opportunity to work alongside a compassionate team on a 24/7 rotating roster in the Croydon area. You will provide empowering, recovery-orientated services to support vulnerable young people achieve positive recovery outcomes, build life skills and capacity, and develop connections with the community.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Support young people to re-engage with family and friends, create community connections, develop life skills, and enjoy a positive future through a staged approach to recovery.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team offering specialised psychosocial support.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid young people to build their skills and focus on recovery.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Youth Work, Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Expertise working with young people with mental health issues, highly complex needs and emotional/behavioural difficulties, and interacting with families and carers.
  • Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery-oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
