Community Safety Engagement Officer

About the role

The Community Safety Engagement Officer will support the development, implementation, and measurement of projects relating to the delivery of the Penrith Community Safety Plan (four-year cycle). As the team specialist in community engagement, you will actively build positive relationships with community members and partners across Council, other Government agencies, businesses, and local community service organisations to enable collaborative Community Safety projects with strong outcomes.

With experience working within a social justice framework and on Community Safety initiatives, and specialising in community engagement practice, collaborative project development, and project management, this offers a dynamic and challenging role for the right candidate.

The Community Safety Engagement Officer is based within the Community Safety team and City Activation, Community and Place (CACP) Department within Council.

The City Activation, Community, and Place department supports a vibrant and inclusive City with thriving, resilient communities. The department sits within Council's City Futures division, which looks at all aspects of planning and delivering a better city for all residents now and into the future. We are a multidisciplinary team with a wide range of strengths and we work collaboratively to deliver outcomes from community-based events, flagship festivals, place-making and arts initiatives, sector capacity-building, safer communities as well as evidence-based policy with a focus on delivering measurable impact. We work innovatively with our community to drive positive outcomes that shape the future of our City. About You

Essential criteria

• Tertiary qualifications in Criminology, Social Policy, Community Development, Social Work, Welfare or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in the planning and delivery of Community Safety initiatives and community events.
• Significant knowledge of community engagement practice and demonstrated community engagement skills, including direct experience working collaboratively with community members.
• Proven experience in the development and management of social impact projects including project planning, reporting and evaluation, budgeting, stakeholder mapping, and partner negotiation.
• Demonstrated written skills including effective grant writing and management, report and submission writing.
• Demonstrated strengths in verbal communication including facilitating groups and presentation skills.
• Sound experience in data analysis and research to support an evidence-based approach to all aspects of your work.

Desirable criteria

• Previous experience in Local Government
• Completed or undertaking postgraduate qualifications or further related studies.
• Demonstrated understanding of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design principles, specifically related to existing established areas and new developments.

Salary: The salary for this position ranges from $100,424.00 - $116,244.00p.a. plus 11% Superannuation, and will be negotiated commensurate with the skills, qualifications, and experience of the preferred applicant.
