Concrete Polisher Role Description
Work Context
A concrete polisher at ConcVert will work within a dynamic team who aim to produce outstanding polished concrete floors for residential and commercial clients. Our services include:
- Basic concrete preparation for other trades (e.g. levelling and tile grout removal)
- Grinding and sealing of concrete floors
- High-grade mechanically polished concrete including various exposures of aggregate
- Minor patching of concrete defects
ConcVert’s warehouse is located in Salisbury Plain, and a usual day’s work includes 7am arrival at the warehouse, preparation and loading of the truck, and travel to and from the project site. Some projects are located regionally or interstate, and travel/accommodation is provided by ConcVert.
Responsibilities and Outcomes
Liaise with customers as required
Set up and preparation for project
- Determine correct tool requirements for the given task, including grinding pads
- Safe use of hydraulic tailgate loaders and transport of heavy machinery
Complete project objectives in a professional and timely manner, including:
:Safely operating machinery and mechanical devices, including:
- Planetary grinder and associated tooling (metal bond diamonds, resin bond diamonds, vacuum units)
- High-speed and slow-speed burnishers
- Mechanical and manual hand tools (including 5-inch and 7-inch hand grinders, and scrapers)
- 3-phase and single-phase power
- Truck-mounted generators
- Ability to recognise stage-appropriate steps within the overall concrete polishing sequence
- Pack machinery and tooling away each day in an accountable and tidy way either onsite, within the truck, or within the warehouse
Requirements
Qualifications and requirements
- Construction Industry White Card
- Current driver’s licence
- Own reliable transport (preferred)
- Medium-rigid truck licence (current or willingness to get licenced)
Experience
- Concrete Polishing (preferred but not required)
- General Labour
Skills
- Strong work ethic
- Physically capable to undertake rigorous manual labour
- Basic problem-solving skills for mechanical and electrical problems
- Ability to work within a team under specific direction
- Ability to work unsupervised at times and use initiative
- Capability to work in varied climate conditions
Job Conditions
- Standard 38 hour working week plus additional overtime is generally required (Generally a 45-50 hour week is expected)
- Overtime is mandatory in cases where projects need to be finished within a given deadline. The predictability of when and where overtime is required is variable and uncertain
- Day shift is the predominant mode of employment structure
- Afternoon/evening shift is periodically and not always predicably required as certain projects require work to be performed within these hours
- Regional or interstate travel is required at times as distant travel work is an intermittent requirement of the industry
- All accommodation and living away allowances are paid by ConcVert when distant travel is required
