About The Role:

This is a Fixed Term Part Time position at 0.2 EFT/ 14 hours per fortnight within General Medicine.

You will provide paediatric consultations for patients accepted into the ISAID program and play a key role in a multidisciplinary team, including developmental paediatrics, child and adolescent psychiatry, social work, and specialist behaviour support practitioners, with care coordination provided by the Clinical Nurse Consultant. The Paediatric Consultant role will operate predominantly in the Outpatient setting.

The main expected outcome of the ISAID program, to which this role contributes, will be the provision of best practice specialised care and support, both within The RCH and in the community for young people with autism and/or ID displaying BOC.

What You’ll Achieve:

  • Delivery of paediatric assessments for patients accepted into the ISAID program (estimated at 3-4 per week)
  • Collaboration with other ISAID team members in case assessment and management
  • Liaison with other professionals in the RCH care team (eg. ED) and external service providers in the community (e.g. behavioural practitioners, schools, child protection practitioners) to achieve quality outcomes.
  • Case conferencing with community paediatricians and other professionals in care team to transition to ongoing care following the three month period of support.
  • Maintain quality standards and excellence in clinical outcomes through evidence-based practice and partnerships with internal and external healthcare professionals

Classification for this position will range from Consultant Paediatrician HN15-HN59.

Your Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • FRACP or equivalent
  • Specialist registration with AHPRA and eligibility for registration within Victoria
  • Demonstrated clinical experience gained via a consultant role post FRACP
  • Previous experience in working with developmental and behavioural patient groups (ID and ASD)

Desirable:

  • RACP Advanced training in Community Child Health
  • Experience working in a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry service

About The Department:

The Royal Children’s Hospital ISAID (Improving Support for Autism and Intellectual Disability) program is an interdisciplinary service dedicated to the care for patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or intellectual disability (ID) displaying behaviours of concern(BOC) and their families.

There are several positions within the program, of which this is one of the key roles. This full-time position could be satisfactorily filled by an applicant from either nursing or allied health disciplines.
