About the role

Reporting into Managing Associate – Legal & Commercial the primary purpose of this role is to lead the management of the commercial, contractual and claim aspects of the capital works contracts for the McPhee Creek Iron Ore Project, including assistance with various commercial aspects for ongoing feasibility studies.

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Responsibility to lead the management of the commercial, contractual and claim aspects of the capital works contracts for the McPhee Creek Projects which include road construction and upgrades, camp construction, raw water infrastructure, civil earthworks, haulage, mine establishment, mine operations, communication infrastructure, heavy mining equipment, crushing plant, power plant and various non-process infrastructure (Construction Contracts).
  • Act as the key contact for all commercial aspects of the Construction Contracts.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to reduce the risk and improve the margin of the McPhee Creek Project through effective management of the Construction Contracts.
  • Develop a strategy for contractual issues, variation orders and claims for the Construction Contracts.
  • Lead the evaluation and management of claims made under the Construction Contracts.
  • Accurately forecast cashflows and final costs for a range of Construction Contracts.
  • Ensure that lessons learned are captured and made available for other projects.
  • Ensure all project communication and documentation is centrally stored.
  • Ensure timely and effective preparation and evaluation of tenders for the Construction Contracts, negotiation with tenderers, recommendations for approvals, preparation of contract documentation, issuance of award of contracts and decline notices, general commercial administration and contract management and close out of contracts.
  • Ensure all Construction Contracts contract documentation and supplier performance complies with Company policies and core values.
About you

You will be a dynamic, self-starter with plenty of enthusiasm and align with our Values of Excellence, Resilience, Agility, Integrity and Win-Win. You will be an individual who can think outside the box, have an eye for detail with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • An academic qualification in engineering, law, quantity surveying or business or a combination of these.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leadership of construction and operational contract development and management, medium to high value and complexity, with exposure to the resources industry.
  • Track record of successful commercial management in mining and/or construction.
  • Experience managing direct reports.
  • Ability to travel to site occasionally.
